Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
It maybe that hardware manufacturers do not bother to create Win 10 drivers for all of their products.
A while ago I upgraded from Win xp to Win 8.1 only to find that Canon have not produced a driver for my Canon scanner, which renders it useless. I have an older HP printer, but in that case HP have produced a Win 8.1 driver and the printer works well. Perhaps Canon expect/hope that I shall buy another Canon scanner - no chance!

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
For your Canon scanner try installing the Win XP drivers. It will probably work
I have an Epson all-in-One, The most recent scanner driver for it is for Vistas, although there is a W10 driver for the printer side.

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
Vista drivers worked on Win7 where there was no Win7 driver available. I suspected something similiar between Win8 and Win10 would exist too. That said when I upgrade my Network to Win 7 from XP using a completely new install, it used generic windows drivers contained in the installation and I didn't have to go looking for any others.
Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
I have tried to use the XP driver but it does not work. Searching the internet reveals that others have the same problem with this Canon scanner [Lide 25] and have not found a satisfactory solution.

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
Try Google search for how to get XP drivers working in Windows 7.
It might be possible to get it going in XP compatibility mode, but only if Windows 7 is 32-bit because all XP drivers are 32-bit.

My first posting on the forums.
pwe, one solution, although it costs, would be downloading and trying VueScan Scanner software. It replaces your Canon software. It has a free trial to check that everything works for you. It says that it is compatible with over 2800 scanners and I see that your Lide 25 is on the list. Could be worth investigating.
Details are here:

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
My wife has a Lide25 scanner running under w10. I may have used the Vista / 7 64 bit drivers. I downloaded from Canons support site
http://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer ... 20(64-bit)
then select Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit), that being the latest OS shown as compatible.

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
Thanks for your suggestions folks.
I am currently running 8.1 so that is 64 bit. I have tried the Canon site for Lide 25 driver for 8.1 and the result is zero. I have previously tried the Win 7 64 bit driver and have just tried it again without success.
Next I shall try the VueScan software.

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
I have looked at the VueScan software but have decided that the easiest way is to manage without a scanner as I rarely used it. If it becomes a problem I shall buy a new scanner [but not a Canon] for not much more than the price of VueScan.

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
I followed that link to CanoScan LiDE 25 and selected Windows 7 (64-bit) as suggested, and got the following link to a driver with Download button:
http://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer ... 864-bit%29
If it runs in Windows 7, and Windows 10, I am surprised it does not work for Windows 8.1.
Perhaps you need a clean start by uninstalling any drivers and unplugging scanner, reboot, then plug in scanner and it should ask for a driver to install.
John Morrison, were there any tricks needed to get it working?

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
Mike,
Thanks for your interest in my problem.
The link you showed was one I have tried before.
I did what you said, uninstalled the driver and then used the link to download the win 7 driver. This produced the same result as before; I can only get the Lide toolbox which only allows me to scan as PDF. the other 2 scan buttons ask for somewhere to transfer the image but there is nowhere acceptable offered. The window which allows for image adjustment does not appear, only the toolbox.
At one point I got a message to say that the device may not work connected to a USB 3 port so I connected it to a USB 2 port and started again with the same negative result.
I have now made any enquiry to Canon product support so I shall await their reply.

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
pwe I think you will either have a long wait in the negative or no reply at all. I went through this loop with an expensive canon film scanner and a Dazzle Digital Video Capture device. That is one reason I have kept my old XP laptop, (it is also handy for my wife Browsing so I can use my laptop!), but I must admit it is very long in the tooth now and with the presumed advances in technology it might be more practical just to buy new windows 10 compatible devices.

I actually had it working on W8.1 before updating to W10 using the W7/Vista driver. I normally also right click any installer and install as administrator.

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
I had an HP scanner which I used in Windows 7 via Irfanview and it worked a treat. I have now got a new pc with Windows 10 and I can't seem to get the scanner in Irfanview, so I am going to use the scanning facility on our printer, hadn't really bothered before.
Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
Well I have had a reply to my enquiry from Canon.
There is no Win 8.1 driver for the Lide 25. The reply gives a few general reasons why this could be; eg expected service length of the product, technical or commercial considerations etc.

pwe, Just think the amount of devices they have sold and must still be in use, how much trouble is it to update a driver? So how many extra devices will they sell with this policy?

John, could you attach a .zip file of the driver installation file?

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
I have tried to attach the 64 bit driver.
It is a self extracting archive that I had changed the extension on to .zip.
However at 4MB it is too big for the forum

The alternatives are via cloud storage, or via direct Email, or perhaps via the Knowledge Base, if pwe is still interested.

Mike & John
Yes I am still interested please. I think perhaps KB is best. I don't have a cloud account if that is what is needed to use that.

I have emailed you via the group giving you my email address. When you reply I will forward the driver to you.

Update.
John sent me a copy of his driver [thanks John] but it did not work with my computer. I have now re-installed the XP driver so that I can at least use the scanner for scans to PDF.
Thanks everyone for you help.

That is a shame, but worth a try.
I presume you followed all John's advice about how to install the driver.

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
I can now report that thanks to John's kind help I am now able to use my scanner. The problem was, and I may not have the correct terminology, that I had not linked an image viewing programme to the scan button. Once I did that the scanner worked.
So thanks very much John.
