Clooz

As a FH and Clooz user, I contacted Clooz to see if Clooz could be integrated with FH, and here is the response:

"Hi David. As far as I know, Rich has not yet talked to Family Historian about an interface similar to our Legacy interface. I don't really know much about Family Historian, so your praise of the program is interesting to me. I just downloaded Legacy 8.0, and considering the simple and effective export from Clooz to Legacy, I am quite impressed. As I'm sure you know, developing a robust interface to any family tree program requires that consent and participation of that program's developer(s). We can certainly look into such a capability in Clooz 4, but in order for that particular development effort to be economically feasible, we will need to hear from other Family Historian users, as the more traditional programs are already requested for interface development by many of our Clooz users. If you know of other Family Historian users who would want a Clooz interface capability, you might spread the word that we would need to hear from them. Based on your interest, I am adding Family Historian to our list of potential improvements, but I'm afraid at this time it has a lower priority than the others.

I downloaded the 30 day free trial after watching the most impressive video. The look and feel is where we want to take Clooz 4. From my initial review, Clooz seems to fit very well as a research and analysis front end".

So if any FH users also use Clooz and would like to see them integrated contact Clooz Support at support@clooz.com. If nothing else, it will certainly raise the profile of FH in the States.

David, for future reference it would be useful if you used the User Control Panel (centre top) to set your Profile to your Family Historian Version so it shows in you profile on the left..

You could let Clooz know that FH uses GEDCOM V5.5 as its database file format, unlike most other genealogy software. That might simplify their task of exporting to FH.

Thanks for that Mike.

I have used the GEDCOM from FH to import into Clooz, but as I understand it, there are more features when a program is supported by Clooz. Programs that are supported include Legacy, Roots Magic and The Master Genealogist. The supported programs are shown on the Clooz website so if FH was a supported program it would get a lot of publicity among Clooz users and hopefully may lead to some people switching to FH.

I agree with that in principle.

I have looked at some of the Clooz documentation and videos.
What Clooz seems to link to when Importing/Exporting is the product database file.
For Legacy, Roots Magic, and TMG that is a proprietary formatted database file that Clooz must interpret differently for each product.

Whereas for FH that would simply be its GEDCOM (.ged) database file that Clooz already understands.
So it should be easy for Clooz to add FH as an Import product.
That is why it would be a good idea to tell Clooz that FH uses GEDCOM format as its database file, because otherwise they may not realise that it would be so easy to add FH.

Of course Export is another story, unless Clooz already exports in GEDCOM format.

Thanks again Mike

I'll contact them and let them know.
