Appologies if this is the wrong forum for this question, but it may be related to my other File Compare and Merge problem. (see topic below).
I open up FH with my 35151 individuals gedcom. I then start Gedcom census, point it to the same gedcom file, answer the Options page with all the defaults, and wait, and wait... I can select the Census year, add Census place, address, reference, etc., but do not get anything populating the All Individuals or Immediate Family windows. Therefore I cannot select anyone, save, etc, etc.
My next thought was that it was my home PC not having enough ooomph to handle the file, so I (illegally) loaded FH and Gedcom Census, and the gedcom file, onto my PC and Laptop at work. Exactly the same symptoms, which sort of eliminates my PC as the problem. (Yes, I did remove both packages from both PCs at work!)
As the Gedcom was ported over from PAF, my next step was to strip out the 35000 _UID PAF specific entries, using a macro in Textpad, in case these were upsetting the apple-cart. Tried again with this 'new' gedcom - same result.
What else could be stopping the functionality in both programmes? Any ideas? Anybody else have a reasonably large gedcom file?

Gedcom Census Limits?
Gedcom Census is a freeware (i.e. it costs you nothing) application written by me to help Family Historian users to enter census record. If you take the time to read the help file which comes with it you will see that it says that it only works with files that are 100% Gedcom compliant and that I have only ever tested it with Family Historian produced files. It also says that you should contact me directly if you have problems.
If Family Historian validates the file and finds no errors in it then there is a problem with Gedcom Census if it can't read it and I will need to fix it. If Family Historian doesn't like the file then I'm not surprised that Gedcom Census doesn't. Have you run the 'Validate' option under the File menu in Family Historian and does the file validate with 0 errors?
If you would like to email the file to me I'll take a look at it and will promise not to pass it on to anyone else and will delete it when I've finished checking out the problem.
Best wishes
Nick

Paul with regard to the merge problem, did you ever contact Calico about it?

Gedcom Census Limits?
In case anyone else is interested...
Paul has sent his file to me and I've discovered two problems with Gedcom Census.
Firstly in the original version I wrote for myself, with no plans ever to pass it on to anyone else, I decided that no one would have more than 8 wives/husbands/partners recorded. This has remained in the program and Paul has someone in his tree who had more wives than that! This is very easy for me to solve and will be fixed in the next version.
The second problem is more serious and is caused by a limitation in the listbox object used in Gedcom Census that can hold a maximum of just over 32,000 items. Paul has over 35,000 individuals in his file... I will be looking at alternative methods for the next version. Paul has already made a good suggestion that I may well implement.
