Gedcom Census amp; Census Dates

Hi Nick,
I have a query on the population of the 'Full Title' of the census when using non-standard Census dates.
I have a few relative you lived in Kansas, and they have a State Census in between the standard US full census. I have been trying to use GEDCOM Census to enter the details, with partial success, but am having trouble with the dates. The Census date only allows entry of a date, once a year has been selected from the drop down list, which i can work round no problem. However the year in the 'Full Title' seems to get built from the date in the drop down list, now when i over type this, as soon as i do anything in fields which are use to generate the title, this change gets lost (which again i could work around). However, it also seems to change when i select somebody from the 'All Individuals' list, which is annoying as i keep fogetting (as i does not seem natural) to allow for.

Under Tools->Options->Recording Method 1 you can change the format of the Title to, for example, not include the Year or to use the Date instead. I'm not aware that the title gets changed when you select people from the 'All Individuals' list and haven't been able to reproduce this?

The way I use Gedcom Census is to start at the top and work down so select the year, change the date if need be, fill in the place, reference, the other info, the address and then edit the title if need be. Then select the people, etc.

Hope this helps

Hi Nick,
I don't want to change the format of the title, as i am happy with the format.
I am do the same as you, in working from the top down. However some time's you have relatives of the family that don't appear in the list at the bottom as this is only the direct relations of the initial selected person, so you have to go back to the all relatives.
I guess i will just have to remeber to change the title last.

Hi Richard

Its the bit about the choosing individuals that I don't understand. When I read your message yesterday I had a play and found that once all the boxes at the top left had been filled in and the title changed, it didn't matter who I selected from either the 'All individuals' or the relatives lists, the title did not get changed. You seem to imply that the title is being changed when you select people, if this is the case can you give me an example so I can reproduce this?

Hi Nick,
Why is it whenever you try an replicate something to explain in details it never does it again[smile]
From memory i had filled in the top details starting with the 2 dates, i then select the primary person (normally by doing a find), and then enter the name, place & address in the top boxes. I then had to add a brother-in-law so did another find. I don't remmeber seeing the title change, but then when i went into the add image dialog it was showing different there and moving the window the main title field had changed.
Don't worry to much if you can't recreate it as neither can i now, allow it did it about a dozen times yesterday, and i can change it manually.
