FH not accepting saved data from GedCom Census
This problem only occurs every second or third entry. The last time it occured I had sucessfully entered in the data for 1851 & 1861 for a particular family. After each of these enteries when I went into FH it reloads the file as it should. When entering the 1881 & 1891 census at the end of entering in the data the window data cleared as normal. However when checking FH none of the data has been transfered.
What am I doing wrong?

All I can think of (its late and I'm tired) is either that:
1) you didn't save your changes in Family Historian before swapping over to Gedcom Census and there was some kind of issue with Family Historian autosaving.
or
2) You opened a different file in Family Historian than the one you edited in Gedcom Census. If you look at the log file in the View menu of GC you should be able to identify the path to the file that was edited. This should match the file path shown in Family Historian under File->File Statistics.

FH not accepting saved data from GedCom Census
Hi Nick,
Thnks for your reply. It could be that between one census and the next I did not save FH. I will will double check I am doing this when I next use GC.
I checked the log file and none of the census's that I have entered, including the ones sucessfully entered into FH are there. None in fact back to May 2007.
When it the data is sucessfully transfered FH seems very slow in recognizing that the file has changed and I have to switch from one individual to another or swap to charts for it to recignise the changes. Is there a way to force FH to check for changes in its file and restarting?
In my frustration in getting FH to see the changes I sometimes close FH, but whilst doing so I get FH to save it's file and perhaps over written the changes GC has made.
FH is set to autosave every 5 mins
The file FH & GC are working on, are the same. The fact that one one session it sometimes works also confirms this?
Both FH & GC are the most up to date versions.

It sounds like you have turned off the logging option in GC. Check in Tools->Options.
I've never known or had reports of Family Historian not immediately noticing a save in Gedcom Census once you move the focus back to Family Historian. Which version of Windows are you using? This sounds like something for Simon at Calico to investigate.
Certainly if Family Historian doesn't notice a change you could very easily lose the changes made in Gedcom Census. Until this is resolved I suggest you close Family Historian before using Gedcom Census and don't use them at the same time.

Thanks Nick,
I checked Log File under general tab and 'Keep a log of census entries created' is ticked. The file path is C:Program FilesGedcom Censuscensuslog.txt
I will clear the log file and enter in a couple of census's tonight to check things. For now I have to get on with my job.
I will ask Simon to look into this. Mean time I will follow your advice.

I would turn off the Auto Save on FH when working with GC.
It's highly likely that is what is causing the problem.
Also if you have Vista make sure your GEDCOM file is in a user directory, as Vistas Links can cause programs to not see what they should.

Ok then I suspect that what is happening here is that you've missed the fact there is a 'next page' button at the bottom of the view logfile screen.RonChapman said:

That's what I missed. I did not spot that next page button.[oops]
I do have auto save on and I agree that is probably the problem.
Many thanks Nick
