Testing New Version of Gedcom Census
Posted: 24 Jan 2008 19:43
I'm hoping to release a new version of Gedcom Census soon and wondered if any of you would be happy to test it when I'm ready (should be over the weekend)? Please only volunteer if you are likely to be able to spend a while trying things out. The new features that particularly will need testing are:

- Gedcom Census now remembers the folder where images are selected for each census country and date. For those who have the images for each census year saved in different folders this will mean that it will no longer be necessary to find the appropriate image folder every time a new census image needs to be attached.
- If an individual has a birth event with no date of birth and/or no place of birth, Gedcom Census will now allow the missing details to be merged into the existing birth event. The source is linked in, etc.
- When creating a birth event (or adding a birth date to an existing birth event) with an age from the UK 1841 census that is 15 or over and divisible by 5, there is now an option to create a 5 year date range rather than the usual calculated date of birth.
- There is now an option to limit the number of backups of files kept by Gedcom Census to an amount chosen by the user.
- The census country now appears as a drop-down list on the main screen. The census country chosen under Options now acts as a default country. This should make it much easier for users who swap between census records from different countries regularly.
- The 1911 census has now been added to the list of UK census records.
- Gedcom Census no longer defaults to saving log files and backups to the Gedcom Census installation folder (e.g. C:Program FilesGedcom Census). Unless a different location is specified within the options, the log and backup are saved to a folder in the user documents (My Documents) called 'Gedcom Census Backups and Log'. This should help to ensure that Gedcom Census always works with standard (non admin) user accounts and avoids the virtual store being used in Vista.
