I am just about to put another family into the census.
There is a Germsn boarder living with the family at this time.
Do I enter him, or not.
There is no other reference to him and I am assuming it was a temporary arrangement.

If you don't want to have him in your file as an individual just record his details within the source text as part of the transcript assuming you usually record the census details in there. Or at least make a note in the source text or source note to record the fact that he was there in case he comes up again in your research.

I have this problem, too, and sometimes the opposite one.

I find someone with the same name as one of my relatives as a boarder / lodger /servant in someone else's household. If I am not sure I have the right person, I sometimes enter these records into a separate database so I can refer to them later.

In one case, the street the family is living on is only three blocks long, and the family is related to the boarder (she is listed as 'niece' of the head of household) but I can't find the family elsewhere, so I am tempted to investigate the whole street for clues.

Maddening, isn't it?
