No entries received in FH events file

Post by George167 » 26 May 2008 12:01

I have upgraded to Gedcom v6.06, and now find the entries are not being received in the events file of the target individual in FH v3.1.2. They are recorded in the Log File, but I cannot see the way to download from this file, if it is possible?
I have used other people's suggestions in the forum; even to re-loading v6.06, but I still cannot get satisfaction. Your help will be appreciated.

No entries received in FH events file

You'll probably need to wait for Nick, I presume you have double checked the file GedCom Census is the same one you are opening in FH and also tried ensuring FH is closed when entering data in GedCom Census, as some OS versions do not report the change to FH to reload the file.

Whenever this has been reported it in the past it has been down to the reason Jane suggested. i.e. the file being opened in Gedcom Census is not the same file being viewed in Family Historian.

Try the following:

1) Run Family Historian and open your Family History file (the one you want to use with Gedcom Census).
2) Check in ‘File Statistics’ under the File menu and make a note of what it says as the Filename.
3) Close Family Historian
4) Run Gedcom Census.
5) From the File menu choose ‘Open Another GEDCOM family history file’ - an 'Open' dialogue window should appear
6) Back in step 2 you made a note of the Filename path of your family history file. In the ‘Open’ dialogue click on My Computer and then follow the path through until you can see the file. E.g. The file path for my file is: File Name: ‘C:Documents and SettingsNick WalkerMy DocumentsFamily HistoryWalker.ged’. So in the ‘Open’ dialogue I would click on the C drive, then the ‘Documents and Settings’ Folder, then ‘Nick Walker’ Folder then ‘My Documents’ then ‘Family History’ and finally I would see ‘Walker’ (or Walker.ged depending on your PC settings) and I would open this.
7) You will then be asked if you want to open the file by default each time. If you always use the same family history file then I would recommend doing this as it saves you selecting the file every time Gedcom Census starts.

Hope this helps

Thank you Jane and Nick for your prompt replies. A relatively basic error has led me astray, but thanks to your clear instructions will teach me to be more careful in the future. Many thanks once again.
