Is there a compatibility problem with FH version 4?.The program appears to process the information without any errors but does not update gedcom file in FH4

One quick thought, did you build a project and if so did you change GC to point at the new version of the gedcom file?

Hi Jane, found a work round to problem. FH4 doesn't display message box ' Gedcom file changed by another program, reload?'
Have to do a manual open gedcom file.

Can someone else with Family Historian 4 check this please, i.e. is it the case that Family Historian 4 doesn't offer to reload the file if it has changed?

I just tried it and it's working for me on Vista.

I just tested it with a text editor and flicking back to FH after saving in the editor, put up the dialogue to reopen the file.

Just eaten a piece of humble pie. Because I kept the gedcom file in same location I didn't re link it in GC, having done so it works fine

I had similar problems but found it hard to change the default gedcom that GC points to.
Have now solved that by changing the name of the original gedcom file so that GC couldn't find it - only then did it ask if the new version should be the default.

Tools->Options->General->'Always ask whether this file should be loaded as defaut' should be ticked.

Then open the other file and it will ask if you want to open it as default.
