Noticed today that the icon had changed to a generic one. Decided to remove and re-install but have now an error message.

Not sure why that would happen. Can I suggest you uninstall and then download the setup program again, right-click on it and choose 'Run as Administrator', run through the installation as usual.

Please let me know if that fixes it.

Just another thought - check your anti-virus up-to-date (i.e. updated today) and might be worth giving the PC a scan.

First of all when you say remove I hope you mean uninstall.

Always use the Uninstall Ancestral Sources option in the Start menu.
Alternatively, use Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs in XP or Programs and Features in Vista/7 and uninstall A.S. from there.

Always use an Administrator privileged account when installing and uninstalling.

Code 740 suggests you may not be using an Administrator privileged account.

A workaround for Code 740 is to right click on the problem file and choose Run as Administrator.
