Attach other file types?

I sometimes like to attach other file types (eg .txt) to a census source. Up until now I've added this in FH after I've entered the census details (and added an image) in AS.

It would be quite handy to be able to add a link to this attachment while entering all the other details in AS. Would it be difficult to allow other files types as attachments, I'm not bothered about having it displayed on the image viewer panel, other than maybe just an icon?

I don't want to add this text in the notes field, mainly to avoid cluttering the gedcom file, but also so that this info doesn't appear in reports.

You can add any multimedia file type via the AS Image Viewer just like you can in FH.
In the Image Viewer window, when you click Select File, the Open file window appears.
Near the lower right corner it lists Image Files (*.bmp;*.gif;*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.pcx;*.tif;*.png;*.tga;*.wmf) and to the right of this list is a black triangular arrow.
Click on that arrow and from the drop-down list choose All Files (*.*).
You will then be able to select any file type to attach to the source.

Perhaps, the AS Help for the Image Viewer should explain this option to add any type of file.

Further to Tatewise's answer. If you attach a file type that isn't directly supported by Ancestral Sources (or Family Historian) then although it won't display it within the viewer, clicking on the area where the image would normally be displayed will lead to A.S. opening the default program for that file type (assuming you have one installed). e.g. if you attached a word document then it might open Microsoft Word (or whatever application you have associated .doc files with)

Ah, so it does, I should have looked a bit deeper!

Thank you both.
