I wondered if it is possible to stop Ancestral Sources from recording a place against each individual's occupation when entering census details? I've had a look at the source templates but I couldn't see how it might be done there.

The address recorded on the census is just where the individual happened to be that day, not necessarily their usual address and certainly not their place of business. I would prefer not to add a place to the occupation unless I had evidence that they were employed or carried on their business at that location.

I would also like to mention how much I appreciate Ancestral Sources, and that it made a significant contributor to my decision to buy Family Historian.

In the AS Help on Census entry it say:

'Place and Address'

'The census place can be entered in the place text box. As you enter the title Ancestral Sources will try to predict the place being entered by looking for the most frequently occurring place in the GEDCOM family history file. The census place is the town or village, e.g. Preston, Lancashire, England.'

'Once the place has been entered an address can be typed in, this would be the house number or name and road (if known) within the place. In smaller villages it may not be possible to record an address as this may not be specified in the census entry. Alternatively an address that has already been recorded for the place can be selected from the address drop-down list.'

So if you follow the above advice, then Place will only hold the town or village, which is where the person probably worked.

Address will be their residence (unless a visitor), and this is not usually copied to the Occupation.

Having said all that, I forgot to mention that you can inhibit the Place being inserted into the Occupation Fact.

See Tools > Options > Census settings > Record census place in occupation and untick it.
