I'm getting down to using AS to input baptisms at long last. I use a single source for each parish e.g. 'Parish Records of St Just in Roseland, Cornwall' and like to use a 'where within source' citation e.g. 'FP 96/1/5; baptisms 1813-1852 fiche 2 of 3; #89'. I don't think I can do this in AS using method 2. Am I wrong? If not, it would be a great enhancement.

You are wrong. AS Method 2 lets you do exactly as you describe.

See Tools > Options > Baptism Settings and select Method 2 (data in citations).
Then click Settings button or Baptism settings - method 2 and select Source Text: In local citation text.
Click the Help button here and choose Baptism Settings - Method 2 for further details.

However, this technique means the same 'where within source' citation e.g. 'FP 96/1/5; baptisms 1813-1852 fiche 2 of 3; #89' is repeated for every Fact for each Individual that cites a particular Baptism.

As the Help explains, an alternative is to use a linked shared Note Record that only records the 'where within source' citation details once.

That would enter the text into the 'text from source' box, surely? I wish to enter the source text via an autotext template AND enter text into the 'where within source' box.

Sorry, you are correct - I misunderstood your original posting, because you did not mention transcripts.

If you need to record both a Source Reference and a Source Transcript it is strongly recommended that you use Method 1 with a separate Source Record for each Baptism.
Then the Source Record Name/Title is the Reference, the Source: Text From Source holds the Transcript, and Source: Multimedia links to any Baptism Image.
Thus everything is in one place, and any updates are easily included.

Using Method 2 means that the Citation: Where Within Source (Reference) and Citation: Text From Source (Transcript) is repeated many times.
If they ever need updating then it requires a significant global edit.

I may be misunderstanding what you mean, but whatever you enter into the Ref ID text box under the third Further Info tab will be saved into the Where in Source citation field. Does that answer the question?

Nick - Thanks for that clarification.
The reason it is not obvious is that the Help both for Baptism and Census does not explain where Ref ID is stored in FH.
In Method 1 there is a clue in the Tools > Options > Baptism/Census settings - method 1 options Record baptism/census reference either In source 'Publication Information' field or In citation 'Where in Source' field (which I had forgotten about).
But for Method 2 there is no need for such an option and so this clue is missing.
