I've been entering 1911 Wales census details using AS.

I've noticed that the 'Language Spoken' column heading on the Welsh census is not one of the auto headings to complete in AS-can I edit it in? (Although AS lists 'Nationality' I have found that this column wasn't completed at the time of the census - however the language column was!)

Also the text in the FH diagram box after completing the AS entries each time shows a census column sub-heading :'Whether employer, worker or working on own account'- can I edit this wording?

Thanks
Stewart

BTW the Nationality column is only for foreign nationals to state their Nationality of origin.

To change the census grid use the Census > Census Templates editor and check out the Help.
Also there are tutorials in the Knowledge Base on Ancestral Sources especially Working With Templates at
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... _templates

It would probably be best to create a New template for Wales 1911 and Copy and Paste from UK 1911 to get started.
You can then use the + Add new column to add the Language spoken column.

You can also change the wording of 'Whether Employer, Worker, or Working on Own Account' but that is what is on the Census form.
I am not sure what you mean by 'FH diagram box' but you can change the Recording options which may give you what you want.

You may also need to alter the Auto-text Template to include the Language spoken column, perhaps by adding a Welsh Census template.

I have fixed it now. There was a & in the name which confused matters.

Thanks everyone!

Managed to edit successfully!
Also downloaded the Wales 1901 and 1911 census templates.

I use census flags and have the ones for UK 1901 and 1911.
Do I now have to enter new flags to show the entries for these new Welsh templates or will my existing ones work?

You can do either, but must use Census > Census Flag Settings and assign a Flag to Wales 1901 and Wales 1911.
You can either use the new Flag offered, or select an existing Flag from the drop down list.

BTW, the Default Auto-text Template automatically includes the new Welsh Language column.

The IoM & Welsh 1901-1911 census template is now also in the Knowledge Base of FHUG Downloads at

All this has been helpful - thanks again!

Tried to find census icons for Wales 1901 and 1911 but no-one seems to have had a go!
Here's hoping....!

Thanks for attempting to add an Icon Download, but the file is not a suitable download and does not work.
Ideally it needs to be a .zip file containing the icon files.

The file was a zip file but hadn't uploaded properly.
I have sent it to Jane and she will add it manually, so file should be available later.

Since entering the census templates for Wales, I now find that
my autotext in AS simply doesn't work!

What might I have done wrong?!

Help please!

Not sure what could have happened - the IOM & Wales Census templates and Auto-text all work OK for me.
Did you simply use the Downloads templates, or have you made any other changes?

The Knowledge Base > FHUG Downloads advises 'Use the Ancestral Sources Census > Countries & Places > Cancel option to avoid an Import bug to be fixed in next release'.
Did you do that?   I didn't but had no problems.

Try using Tools > Autotext Template Editor and select Source: Census and Template: Default then click Reset button.
Does the Preview at the bottom look OK? - click Close.

Check that Census > Countries & Places for Wales is OK.

Does the Autotext for Baptisms work OK?
It should not be relevant, but are you using Method 1 or Method 2?

Thanks for trying to help!-

I am using method 1.

I didn't take the option to 'avoid an Import bug to be fixed in next release'.

On opening AS tools> autotext editor, the baptism source has 3 template options but the census source has none. I didnt know what you meant by default at that stage but resetting didn't seem to make any difference.

On using AS and opening the project all seems fine with the baptism autotext. On opening Census > Census templates it seems that I have templates for UK 1841-1911 and Wales 1901,1911. I also have all for Canada, Ireland and the USA.
I can enter information as before and everything seems to be in order but autotext won't function

It seems that somehow the Default Autotext Template for Census has got lost.
Use Tools > Autotext Template Editor and select Source: Census and click the Reset button.
You should get a popup warning about resetting the templates, click OK.
If you click on Template: the Default template should now appear, and all will be OK.
It is simply the {CENSUSGRID} keyword.

If the above does not work, then there must be something amiss with your AS installation Autotext.xml file.

A workaround is to cretae a New template called Default with the {CENSUSGRID} keyword as its definition.

Just to mention that I've kept out of this conversation because Mike is answering before I get a chance and I can't add anything to his responses which are good solutions.

I had to create a new default template.

All seems fine now.

Thank you very much.
