Is there a way of using the baptism part of AS to enter the baptism of a child who is already a child?
When I entered the marriage of Hugh Hay to my 2xgreat aunt I also added his father and used this to identify his baptism.
But when I tried to enter the AS record to FH I was told a record already existed and was not able to proceed.
What should I have done?

Without seeing what you're doing it is difficult to be sure what is happening here.
When you select the baptised individual so that they appear under the Main tab in the 'Individual' box, does his father then automatically appear in the 'Father' box? If not then this would suggest you've not linked the father to him yet?

Yes, the father did appear in the father box.
Another query is that when I tried to save the minister's name, I was told that there was no individual or was that referring to the laack of godparents?

So you select the individual and this automatically fills in the father. Were you by any chance trying to enter a new mother directly into the 'mother' box? If so then Ancestral Sources doesn't support doing this (though I admit this isn't clear). Instead just select the individual and then use the 'Add Parent...' link to add the mother. Then if you select the individual to add them to the baptism entry both the mother and father should automatically be selected too.
You don't 'save' the ministers name, you just type it into the Minister box. If it was complaining that there was no individual then this suggests you hadn't selected an individual on the main tab.
I hope that makes sense
Nick

Yes, sort of. My first mistake was to try to enter the mother's name directly into the box.
However I didn't go to the residence tab until I had filled in the main tab.
I tried to work through it again, not trying to save and the minister was listed on the auto text.

And I should have said 'thank you for such a prompt reply as I was practising because I am going to a Record Office tomorrow and want to be able to use AS there'.
