When openning or reloading AS don't change Entries (Census, Baptism or Marriage) until the file has loaded.
Twice now I've done it and lost over 2000 Source records. I have passed the details and files on to Nick.

Please don't make everyone panic about Ancestral Sources without giving me a chance to look into to. You can't save entries until the file has loaded - it isn't possible. Even if AS was doing something weird like ignoring 2000 of your records it would add a trailer onto the file and that is missing off the files you've sent me.When openning or reloading AS don't change Entries (Census, Baptism or Marriage) until the file has loaded.
From the description you've given in your email and the attached files it sounds as if you've loaded the file into Family Historian while Ancestral Sources is still saving the file. FH is seeing the file has changed and is reloading the portion of the file that AS has written up to that point. I have had this kind of thing reported a couple of times before and it does seem to be related to this. Make sure the file has finished saving before reloading it in FH. There isn't anything I can do to stop FH from doing this.
Also you don't really lose 2000 sources as AS makes backup copies before it saves so you can easily recover the file as it was before you added the entry.

Unless Calico Pie liaises with you to support a 'lock' file which is created immediately before the save and deleted immediately after. It's in both your interests to prevent this kind of conflict.FH is seeing the file has changed and is reloading the portion of the file that AS has written up to that point. Nick,
Tested and replicated fault.
When I switch 'Entries' while file is loading in AS at some point it corrupts the file. This time there were 6926 Source's missing.
I waited one minute between 'SAVING' in AS and reloading in FH.
When I don't change between 'Entries' everything is fine.
Please don't make everyone panic about Ancestral Sources without giving me a chance to look into to
My wrist is slapped.

Sorry, wasn't trying to slap wrists. Just a frustrating day at work, full of a cold and no chance to check it out before I got home - which I'm now doing.
Your instructions to reproduce this are very helpful and I agree there appears to be an issue here and I don't think its got anything to do with having FH open at all. No need for anyone to panic, unless you've changed your settings AS does backup your files before making changes. I suspect you're seeing this issue because you have a large GEDCOM file and as you say, you're changing the source type before the loading has completed.
Anyway will post more when I understand what's going on.
Should also say that I take back any implied blame for FH for this one. It certainly sounded like it because of the set of circumstances you described, but I was wrong.

I'm still not entirely sure why and so I need to spend more time on this, but I can reproduce the problem if, while the file is loading, I change source type to one that uses Recording Method 2.
I should also say that I can reproduce this problem with v1.1 that came out nearly 2 years ago so the bug has been there for a long time. It isn't an issue that has been reported too many times so I'm not going to panic and produce a new version immediately. It will have to wait until after I come back off my imminent holiday.
The mistake is that it shouldn't be possible to change source type while the file is loading. The rest of the screen is disabled when loading but the toolbar isn't. So if you change source type while the file is loading it is beginning to display those sources in the source list box even though they haven't all been loaded in yet.
So please do follow Steve's advice at the top of this thread. Do not change source type while the file is opening or reloading.
Thanks again Steve for spotting the cause and reporting this.
