Failing to Save Media Images
I am a new user to AS having spent the last year learning (almost!) to enter my years of research into FH. I am self taught on all matters IT so I struggle to understand some of the processes. I decided to start with baptisms on AS hoping to find my way with the singular information and individual involved and after numerous failures and tries I can now transfer the data into FH; but the parish record image always needs manually linking into FH as it stubbornly sits back in AS. I presume the image should transfer along with the data so I am probably repeating the same mistake each time.........am I?

Yes, the Parish Record image should be saved into FH with the data.
When Saving the Baptism data do you get a warning that no image is attached?
Do you realise the image is attached to the linked Source Record on its Multimedia tab, not to the Individual Record?
Have you worked through the Ancestral Sources Tutorials?
The Baptism Tutorial does not insert an image.
But the Census Tutorial and Marriage Tutorial do.
Checkout their Add Multimedia Image sections.

Thank you for helping. No I do not get a warning message.
I am not entirely sure I understand the exact meaning of 'linking to source record not individual record' but no matter for the moment because..... yes, I have used the tutorials (and also printed out the help pages associated with them for reference while I am working)..... however....I have ONLY studied the baptism ones because I was keeping my learning simple and both census and marriage would involve more than a singlular person. I think there is a good chance that you have hit both me and a nail on the head if I need to learn about images from the other tutorials. I felt I could confuse myself by trying to absorb all three simultaneously.
So please, let me explore your suggestion and see how I get on.
Again, many thanks indeed.

Out of interest, what is the image? Is it a media file (something like photo.jpg or photo.gif) that you've saved such as a photograph of a page of baptisms?

I suspect that the image is being linked correctly to the source, otherwise you would get a warning.

Con ~ Assuming you have retained the default settings in AS, then check for the image in FH as follows:
Open the Property Box box for the Individual whose Baptism you entered.
If not already open, then open the yellow Sources pane by clicking the yellow scroll icon at the top.
Select the Facts tab, and select the Baptism event.
The Source record should be listed in the yellow Sources pane.
Open this Source record by double-clicking it or clicking the yellow triangular button below.
In the Source record Property Box select the Multimedia tab.
Is your linked image displayed their???

Chris M,
The image(s) are JPEGs saved from Ancestry.co.uk and similar.
Tatewise,
I have followed your instruction trail above and indeed found the image in FH. That is not where I expected to find it as I have entered many BMD certs during the past year using the Multimedia tab in the property box.(I started out following the instructions in the booklet by William Clegg.) Linking the multimedia JPEGs this way places my images along with the individual's name in the focus window and they are also showing in the lower half of the multimedia tab of the property box. I expected to find the baptism image there, too.
So, have I taken a wrong turn somewhere along the way?
And Nick, thank you as well.

Firstly, there are options to change these things (see final paragraph below) but the reason that by default it works the way it does is explained in the next paragraph...
The source of all your information is the baptism record therefore it makes sense that the image is linked to this source. From the details of this baptism source that you've entered, AS creates a number of facts: a baptism fact, perhaps some residence facts, occupation facts, etc. All of these facts are linked via a citation to the source. The image isn't a picture of the baptism, or the occupation, or the residence, its a picture of the source record, which is why it is linked to the source rather than directly to those facts. All of these various facts being linked to the source means that the image is easily viewed if you need to but there aren't any unnecessary multiple links to the image. I refer to this system of using a source for the baptism record with image linked to it as 'method 1'. If your FH reports have the option ticked to show images linked to sources then you'll see the image appearing in your report. If you're also transcribing the baptism record then you may want to tick the report option to include the text from source.
Of course some users prefer to do things differently. Method 2, is for people who prefer to have a single source called for example 'Baptisms' which every baptism (and corresponding residence, occupations, etc.) links to. In those circumstances it wouldn't make sense to link the image to the source and so there are options to instead link to the facts or the citations. You can change these settings under Tools->Settings.

Following up on Nick's comments, I would advise you study the various optional methods in some depth before making a choice.
Perhaps experiment with the Family Historian Sample Project, as per the AS Tutorials, to try out the methods without risking your Master Project data.
Since you are intending to support Facts with Source Document Images, and presumably Source Transcripts in the Text From Source field, then I would recommend using what Nick calls Method 1.
There have been many discussions in these Forums regarding these methods, and we are happy to answer any queries you may have.
Above all be consistent!
