Linking images to facts

Post by martinreed » 28 Oct 2012 11:09

I would like to link the image of say a census record to the fact rather than the source. For a census record with multiple people ideally the image would be saved to the relevent facts for all the people.
Is this possible?

Linking images to facts

If you are using census recording method 1 then this isn't possible. The reason for this is that there really isn't any point.

You have one source which describes the census entry. This requires one link (assuming the census image is one page) to the multimedia record. If you're looking at a fact then this image can be viewed in Family Historian with just a single click in the yellow citation section of the properties window. If you have a report and you want to include the image then this can be easily achieved by choosing the option to include images linked to sources.

Your suggestion of having this image linked directly to all the facts would require multiple links to be created throughout your file. Technically this would be possible but as there is no logical reason for this the option isn't there.

If however, you were using Recording Method 2 (which I don't recommend) where you might just have one source 'Census 1901' then it wouldn't make sense for the image to be attached to that source. Therefore in that scenario you would link the image to either the fact or the citation and AS offers options for both of those.

I hope that makes sense.
