Recording marriage details
I have recorded a lot of marriage details via AS which has been great.
A month or two ago the AS marriage details suddenly changed. The forth tab which had a line to add witnesses names became two lines with blank spaces to add names. On adding names of witnesses and saving them they were described as god parents (like in the baptism details)
All the other tabs remain as marriage details. Only the fourth tab (heading 'further details') has changed.
I have uninstalled AS and downloaded it again and still have the same problem. I am using Windows 7 32 bit
I have a new lap top and AS works perfectly on that. Just how can I get that fourth tab restored?
I would post an image here but the size of 165kb exceeds the limit

I recall you raised this on the Mailing List, where I gave this advice:
Try clicking the Edit... link next to Association: and then the Reset button to restore the original installation settings.
I assume you have never defined any Association Types yourself and just use the AS defaults.
So, if the above does not work then locate your Ancestral Sources Settings folder.
That is the one shown on Tools > Options > General settings.
In that folder delete the Associated.xml file.
Then AS should automatically restore the default Associations.

Yes Mike you did try to help me in this. But did not get any where
I have just checked the 'General settings' you have mentioned. I don't see an 'association.xml line.
I have opened AS on Marriage. The source type is shown as baptism. I have changed this to 'marriage' and trying to save it I get a message asking for a value for the filter which I don't know so am unable to save it. Can you tell me what the filter would be. If I close AS and reopen it again on 'marriage' the sour ce type reverts back to baptism

In Ancestral Sources you should see the address of the Settings Folder:

Then in Windows Explorer you should find the file Associated.xml in the relevant folder:

I hope this helps.

Are you saying you tried clicking the Edit... link next to Association: and then the Reset button to restore the original installation settings, but it did not fix the problem?Victor said Yes Mike you did try to help me in this. But did not get any where
Peter has explained what I meant, but more explicitly.I have just checked the 'General settings' you have mentioned. I don't see an 'associated.xml line.
This Tools > Options > General settings feature has nothing to do with the choice of data entry mode Baptism v Marriage nor with Associations so please leave it alone. The source type is shown as baptism. I have changed this to 'marriage'

Peter
Thanks for the explanation I would have had no idea where to look for that.
Mike and Peter everything has been restored after I had deleted that file. So now I can get back to normal use of marriage via AS.
Sorry for my previous duplicated reply. I tried to correct an error which is why my reply appeared twice.

Mike's Edit/Reset solution should have fixed your problem. The other than Mike and Peter have explained should too though it isn't such a user-friendly solution.victor said:

When you use the options screen Victor you'll see there are seven pages of options which can be accessed using the arrow buttons at the top. The first option page says General and these are settings that apply to all source types. The following 2 setting pages are for census, then 2 for baptism and finally 2 for marriage. The General setting for source identification is there to help Ancestral Sources recognise whether a source is a baptism source or a marriage source or a census source. e.g. it assumes a source is for a baptism if the source title includes the word 'Baptism' or 'Christening'. If you don't have any problems with this aspect of Ancestral Sources then you have no need to change these.
Nick
[EDIT: Victor replied while I was writing this - Glad to hear you fixed your problems]
