Auto Text Place amp; Address

Why is the place and address data not entered when Auto text is chosen as the option?

Hi

Your question isn't entirely clear. Are you referring to a census entry? Do you mean that you want the place and address to appear in the source text when you press the Auto button? If so then you will need to edit the autotext template.You may find this Knowledge Base page useful:

Sorry about that lack of clarity Nick.

I hadn't noticed before that the place and address details are not automatically added along with the other data (name; date etc) into the Text From Source in AS and FH when Auto Text is selected.

I know, for example, that for Census AS adds the info (census and/or resdince) to FH but when you look in FH at the information on the Source Record there is no record of the place or address in that record.

As you say, I will have to amend my template. Wish I had noticed it before as this is key data for certain sources.

The following is the Template I use for Census Auto-text:

District:            {PLACE.SHORT}
Sub-district:      ?
Enum.District:      ?
Eccl.District:      ?
Parish:            ?
City/Borough:      ?
Address:        {ADDR}
County:            {PLACE}
{CENSUSGRID}

I then fill in the ? details from the Census Return as necessary.

Thanks for that - it is really useful.

When I first started all this some years ago I had undervalued what I took to be peripheral info like ecclesiastical parish etc.  However, with the increase in the number of parish and other local records being searchable on-line I realise this was a mistake.

I have found the info on parishes useful in tracking down people in parish records and some of the other e.g. sub/district useful in local 'council' records.

Thanks again!
