Saving Existing Marriage Citations

Apologies if this is obvious / covered elsewhere but I'd be interested to know how people deal with the fact that AS deletes existing marriage citations. Generally this is undesireable but to avoid the loss seems to involve a lot of copy, paste and saving before using AS. Thanks.

Saving Existing Marriage Citations

Yes, I often have an existing citation and sometimes multimedia attached to a marriage before I want to use AS to capture full details from a register or certificate.  My solution is to have a dummy family consisting of two dummy individuals. I can then use the records window to copy the existing marriage event to the dummy family and save in FH before using AS.  Then having saved the new marriage event in AS I restart FH and can copy any required fields from the dummy family's marriage event to the new marriage event.  Finally delete the marriage event from the dummy family.

Yes, that's more or less ahat I've had to do. I'd hoped there might be an easier solution. It would be good if there was a 'add existing citations to new record' option.

Saving Existing Marriage Citations

Another work around might be to write a small plugin to copy the existing entry to a newly created family record, and then merge the Family record back in when the entry is finished.

Saving Existing Marriage Citations

This is an old thread I'm replying to.

The next version of Ancestral Sources (beta testing soon) will allow you to copy any existing citations, linked notes or images to the new marriage, baptism, death or burial records. I hope this will make things easier for Anthony, Peter and others.

I have just tripped over the same issue in version 3.2.3. Any new information on when the updated version (which would make things much easier) will be out?

I may have several sources for the same marriage event for example:
FreeBMD index entry, FamilySearch index entry, scan of a certified copy of the certificate, Parish register image. I guess the correct way of recording this would be 4 citations referring to the different sources attached to one event. I am now recording each index as a source with many citations for different entries, but the certificates / register entries as individual sources with a single citation per entry per person (although an alternative might be to have to have one source with two multimedia entries with different reference data?)

Correction (for Baptism), the version allows a second event to be created rather than adding a citation to the existing event if you chose the option to to delete the existing event
