Adding person retrospectively

I used Gedcom Census ages ago to enter an 1841 census for a family. Also in the household were two people who I didn't think were related, so although I entered them under 'Actual text' I didn't do anything about linking them, as they didn't appear in my tree. One of the problems of there not being relationships on the 1841!

I have recently found out that they are in fact related, so I have added them to my tree. I now want to attach the census record to them.

I have tried creating a 'census' event, but when I try to attach the existing source record it doesn't have the same format as all my other census events. It may be a bit OCD, but I do like all of my records to be exactly the same!

Is there a way I can do that, either from Ancestral Sources, or manually from FH (I am on v5), or am I better of unlinking the existing census entry from the main family and re-doing it from scratch in AS?

I would use Family Historian and use the copy and paste buttons to copy the census (and perhaps occupation) facts from the fact list for an individual who you did add and paste into the 2 new people and then edit the details as appropriate. These new facts will automatically have the same citation and source details because copy and paste in Family Historian is helpful like that. If you transcribed the entry into the source text then you can just edit that manually (which is what you've done).

The Add a Person to an Existing Entry Knowledge Base Article explains this in detail.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Nick,

Why didn't I think of something as simple as copy and paste!

It worked a treat. I got bogged down in much more complicated solutions and couldn't see the wood for the trees!

P.S. Thanks for Gecom Census and Ancestral Sources; it simplifies data entry so much!
