census images

Post by Denisg » 29 Jul 2023 19:05

Hi all, in the 1881 census I have two families appearing on the same census page. When I have entered one family and added a census image do I need to add the same image to the second family or is there a way of linking both families to the same image? TIA.

Personally I tend to just link another copy of the image because disk space isn't an issue nowadays and it does no harm to have it in the file twice and it's a bit of a faff to rename the image afterwards to reflect it being part of two sources (because of the naming scheme I use).

However, you can link the same image if you wish: when you open the image viewer choose the 'Link existing image already in the file' option and then you find the image by searching for it.

Yes, there is, I have several occasions when this has occurred. You do View/Add Image as normal, but then select the "Link existing image already in the file" (see upper right of the Add/View image pane). Then you can select the existing image from the list provided.

Thanks for replies. I'll go with two images.

I save the first image under the name of the head of the family (e,g say Alan Brown). Then the4 second under the different head of the family (say Tony Brown)
This is in addition of the census title. I also add lines (say red) round each family before saving the images
