Edit a Census template column headings?

Post by fhtess65 » 01 Jun 2023 20:21

Is it not possible to edit the column headings when editing a census template?

For the 1931 Canada census, I copied the 1921 template and pasted to a new one, thinking that it would be mostly the same and I could just edit the headings and add or delete a column where necessary. I found I couldn't edit a column heading. Is this not possible? Should I then delete the old column and create a new one, taking note of the parameters?

Thanks! (have plenty of time to work on this as the LAC 1931 census site has crashed because so many people are trying to access it!)

I am able to edit column headings on my templates for the census. Not sure why you aren't able to.

Are you not able to change the wording or is it not being saved after you make the change?

In your screenshot you have the word Habitation highlighted so it certainly appears that you can edit that field? You should just be able to edit that title and then when you click on the next heading it will save the change and you'll see it reflected in the list of columns on the left.

Apparently all I had to do was ask on the forum. When I tried on my lunch break today, it wouldn't let me, but now it's working fine. Who knows ... I didn't do anything different just now ... Just glad it's working!

Thanks :)

It just wouldn't let me - I tried typing in the field and nothing happened. Now, however, it is working. I must having been doing something wrong, though can't figure out what ...

Thanks :)
