I am a longtime Mac user who ran TMG on Parallels. I have now spent hours and hours over the last few days trying to get
Family Historian and Ancestral Sources to 'play nice', via Parallels, on my iMac and my M1 MacBook.
I am amazed at how kludgy Windows is compared to the fluid effortlessness of the Mac OS. It is like comparing a Lada to a BMW.
I have come to the conclusion the 'perfect' genealogical software app would be MacFamily Tree (with its glorious graphics) married to the data input capabilities of Ancestral Sources/Family Historian.

"Ancestral Sources Mac". Perhaps Mr. Walker could rise to the challenge

Let's not start a Mac vs Windows argument as this has been going on for 30 years now. Suffice it to say I disagree and really don't like the mac interface, but we are all entitled to our opinions. Don't hold your breath with regards to AS for Mac.

Oddly; one of the higher ranked wishes is for a version of FH7 that would run on the Android OS. As Macs are rapidly moving to the M1 (ARM) processor, the same one that the Android O/S is designed to use, a Mac version could actually end up being a reality. It's really not that much of a leap.

I am currently running FH7 and AS, using Parallels 18 and Windows 11 (ARM) on an M1 Mac, and have had absolutely no issues with the FH7 interface or its operation. In fact; I'm very happy with FH7 and AS on that platform. I also own a copy of MacFamilyTree10 and while it runs quite well and has pretty graphics, it really doesn't have anywhere near the same technical capabilities as FH7.

Bottom line... I just wanted to chime in and let people know that not all Mac users are of the same opinion as the original poster.

Thanks, Gary... I do get tired of the whole "Mac is better" smugness from some users. To each their own. Nick does an amazing job on AS as it is - adding a Mac version seems like a request too far.

Thanks for your suggestion which led to the recent changes in AS - definitely finding it much faster to add a whole series of baptisms from the same church!

Yes it is AS will work with any Gedcom file it doesn't matter which genealogy program created the gedcom.

Yes that is definitely true but I don't know how well that would work practically (are there other packages that use GEDCOM as their main file system?). I suppose in the requested scenario it would be possible to use a Parallels hosted FH with a native AS, but as I said it's not likely to happen. It would take me thousands of hours to do this.

Someone I know still uses PAF (don't ask) but after me telling them about AS they export a Gedcom make several AS entries and then re-import the new Gedcom. There is no telling some people. Not sure what version of AS they are using probably one from a few years ago knowing them.
