AS minor update v7.7.3

Post by NickWalker » 25 Mar 2023 12:46

The Ancestral Sources v7.7 download page will now deliver a new minor update v7.7.3. I've not triggered AS to announce this update to users yet as I want to wait to see if there are any show-stoppers before I do that. So please let me know if you spot any serious issues. The list of changes since v7.7 was released are:

7.7.3 minor update:
  • Ancestral Sources will now remember whether the Bookmarked Repository option is ticked so that it retains the same status when next loaded. This was requested by 'kenfig' on the FHUG forums.
  • Updated the Baptisms 1813- (England/Wales) RTF auto-text template to remove an incorrect carriage return if the associated individuals minister was selected.
  • Ancestral Sources will now remember the chosen associated individual type. e.g. if Witnesses were chosen for marriages then this will be selected next time a marriage entry is created. This resolves a complaint from a few users frustrated that 'Best Man' was the usual default as it was first in the alphabet.
  • Resolved some issues with the local note not working with 'just name' associated indviduals.
  • Fixed some issues with RTF to Gedcom conversion in v7.7.2 that caused deleting columns not to work (as reported by Mike Shepherd). Each row of a table was being incorrectly recorded as a separate table.
7.7.2 minor update:
  • There was a problem with rich-text generated where two tables were created with no gap between them. This should now be fixed. Thanks to Chris Read for reporting this.
  • Templated sources in Family Historian do not really use generic source short titles and using the options to create short titles in Ancestral Sources can lead to some confusion. Therefore for v7.7.0, I made a change so that Ancestral
  • Sources no longer generated a short title if templated sources were used. Following a query on the FHUG forums I've now added an option (off by default) to allow short titles to be used with templated sources. This was inspired by a query on the FHUG forums.
7.7.1 minor update:
  • Annoying error (caused by a missing bracket) that meant that typing v into the auto-text caused AS to paste text instead was reported by Alan Medows and is now fixed.
  • Chris Read reported that the tree view didn't update to show changed names or new individuals added in Family Historian following a reload. This should now work correctly.

Thanks Nick
I have updated my copy.
Just one question about witnesses. This comes up when I use death certificate. These certificates don't list witnesses (at least I have never seen any listed)
Maybe this bit could be removed?

Victor, the AS Death mode can be used for other evidence than just Death Certificates and may include perhaps a verbal interview with somebody who did Witness the death.

My brother was at my Mother's hospital bed side when she died. Surely when adding the death certificate issued by the hospital adding my brother as a witness would be appropriate?

The informant is sometimes recorded as present at the death also.

Hi Victor

I'm being consistent with what Family Historian does. If you look at the witness roles for death facts in FH they have Informant and Witness as the two built in roles. I have a separate mechanism for informants so Witness is still required to conform with FH. Remember that AS has to also attempt to cater for different death certificates from around the world and so needs to allow for witnesses or other 'associated individuals' who may be referred to in the source document.

Best wishes

Nick

It depends on the certificate and the circumstances - on several DCs for my ancestors, the informant is also recorded as having been "present at the death", which means I include them as a witness to the event. Vital record certificates differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction - we can't assume that what we're used to seeing is what other researchers see.
