Ancestral Sources Help function
When I click on the Help button for Ancestral Sources I get the message:
Can’t reach this page
Make sure the web address //ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm# is correct
Search for this site on Bing
Refresh the page
Check that all network cables are plugged in.
Verify that flight mode is turned off.
Make sure that your wireless switch is turned on.
See if you can connect to mobile broadband.
Restart your router.
There is no problem with my WiFi. Can anyone help with this?
Many thanks

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
Welcome to your first FHUG posting.
Please clarify a couple of details: Which FH and AS versions are you running?
You can also update your FHUG Profile to show the FH version in the panel on the right.
Exactly what Help button are you using?
In AS v7.3.3 there is a Help command in the top menubar and a blue circle with white question mark AS Help icon near the right end of the toolbar.
You might also be talking about the Ancestral Sources Data Entry plugin Help and Advice button.
Do you have the latest V5.0 download from the Plugin Store?
Old versions may still be trying to use the old web page mechanism that is no longer supported.

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
Hi
I am using FH 7.0.10 and AS 7.3.3. I get the error message when I use the Help command in the top menubar and also when I use the question mark in the blue circle.

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
It would be helpful if you click on your username HSmith2007, then navigate to Edit Profile, select Family Historian V7, and scroll down to SUBMIT. Then it will show in the profile pane on the right.
Have you had AS v7.3.3 installed for some time with the Help working, and the problem has now appeared,
OR have you just installed AS v7.3.3 and noticed this problem the first time you tried the Help?
Try downloading AS from Ancestral Sources v7.3 again and install again.
BTW: What Windows version are you using? 7, 8.1, 10, 11?
The error message includes "Verify that flight mode is turned off." and "connect to mobile broadband." that are mobile device related. Is there any logical explanation for that?

Do you get the same error when you try to open the help in Family Historian? I'd also be interested in knowing which version of Windows you are using.

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
Nick - apologies for the delay in responding and thanks for the tip on editing my profile - now have the right pane.
I have not used AS for some time so can't recall if I had trouble with it in the past. I have reloaded it to no avail. I have Windows 10. No idea what the reference to mobile devises means or where it comes from. Never used AS or FH on anything other than a desktop PC.
Nick - I have no trouble getting anything on FH help.
Any ideas?

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
Try downloading the AS installer again and then right-click the download and choose the Run as Administrator option and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks
Nick

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
I think this problem is one I had a few years back on my work computer. I can't for the life of me remember exactly what it was, or if I managed to fix it. I'm sure it was something to do with network permissions stopping IE (engine) correctly getting to the page (help page) in the chtml help file.
I do know I had a problem if I tried to open a help file directly when it was on a different drive (network share) but was fine if it was on the local drive. I'm not sure if this was the same problem as it's so long ago now.
Just some thoughts that may nudge something in someone's head, but could be irrelevant.

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
Hi Chris
Thanks for reminding me. I'd found some references to this error when I posted my first reply and it was related to the installation being on a network drive or mapped drive. I did think this was meant to have been fixed in an update (which is why I asked about the version of Windows) but further reading suggests it may have been broken again in a later update to Windows 10.
Cheers
Nick

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
Nick / Chris
Thanks again for your input. I have re-installed and then run the program as administrator and this has made no difference.
There is no longer any urgency to sorting this out as I manage to work out the solution to the question I was asking Help, so am now happily using AS. It's just that if I hit another issue at some time in the future, it would be useful to have the Help function.

Re: Ancestral Sources Help function
Do you have Ancestral Sources installed on a network drive?
The Help file is also available online here: https://ancestral.fhug.org.uk/webhelp/hh_start.htm

Nick, hi
I do not have this on a network drive but, to be honest, the link that you sent will do the trick so I can live without the help button - it just niggles the OCD side of me!
Thanks for all your help with this.
James
