AS - Problem with deleting data from an automatically populated field.

Nick, I have re-posted this here just for completeness after posting it in the wrong place. There is no need to answer, I have posted your reply below.

I have just entered a marriage into AS, for a marriage that was already there, (I want to be consistent with my sources). It automatically populated the bride's mother who wasn't mentioned on the marriage certificate, so I deleted it. I think AS unchecked "SP Mother" automatically. When I went to save it, it said ~Do you want to rename Alice Amos to ""~ . I answered no. The only option I got then was to either lose all the entry details or cancel. In the end after a couple of circuits I decided to say yes to Rename Alice. Back in FH the screen showed the mother, Alice, as Alice Mitchell, her married name, (changed from Alice Amos), in the man screen, but the property box name was empty.

I feel sure I have done this in the past and not had this issue.

Nicks Answer:-

You just need to untick any parents who aren’t referred to in the entry, you don’t delete them. As you said, AS unchecked the ‘SP Mother’ automatically which would have been enough.

I have never seen a brides mother (or grooms mother for that matter) on a marriage certificate unless they were a witness.
AS simply adds the mother's name as it should be. I always accept that as it confirm the connections. The names on the certificate is what is shown on there when the image is added

It's quite shocking that mothers are not even recorded on modern England & Wales marriage certificates although I believe changes may be afoot. By default AS doesn't tick to include the mothers and does include fathers although this is controlled by options that can be set.

Modern Scottish certificates show them.

New Brunswick Canada certificates show them.

I've got examples from all over the place showing them.

Modern Scottish certificates show them.
Not just modern ones. Scottish marriage certificates have shown the mother's name, including maiden name, since 1855 when statutory registration was introduced in Scotland.
