I have just downloaded AS7 and decided to look at the addition of Electoral Roll in the Census section, mainly because i was involved in the workaround in the previous version using the census templates and was included in the FHUG knowledgebase.

On an initial trial I noticed that once you had selected the Year range you were unable to go back to amend this until a date had been inserted in the following box. This means that if your finger slips and you select the wrong range you have to insert a date before you can alter the range. This led to the second observation that you can insert an invalid date i.e. one outside the range and it is accepted. However if the date is left blank it triggers the " Invalid date" warning.

Just to add that I haven't entered any other data as yet (it is getting late) so it may be that the invalid date is picked up a later stage.

I'll look at the first issue regarding being forced to enter a date which I can see might be annoying.

Regarding the other point. The year range is just a text field so there's no validation against that. You could, for example, have a template where the year was called 'post-war' (you wouldn't but I hope you can see what I mean).

I think that I should thank you for incorporating the Electoral Rolls into the new version which will make things much easier than my workaround.

Whilst accepting that there is a reason for the date not being validated, I can't see the reason for the red question mark beside the Date box that says "Invalid date" as that indicates that there is some form of validation. Does that warning have a purpose?

Hi Brian

The date needs to be a correct date as it is then used for things like calculating someone's potential date of birth from their age. That date box has been there since the first version of AS and has always validated in that way. You've just not noticed it before because the date has always been automatically filled in for census entries. However, if you had ever edited that date, it was validated.

As I said, I'll have a look at this for the next update.
