Baptism Auto Text template - Rich Text

Post by mezentia » 10 Dec 2020 16:04

When using the RTF version of the Autotext Baptism template, the No. part of the When Baptized column was not populated. I would normally put this in the Ref ID: field. The column for Associated individuals I have titled, and I have added a further coulmn for Other Information. I have amended the template to read:

{RTF-TITLE}Baptisms at =IF[{ADDR}%{ADDR.SHORT}, %]{PLACE} {RTF-TITLE.OFF}

<table="{RTF-WIDTH3}|{RTF-WIDTH5}|{RTF-WIDTH5}|{RTF-WIDTH5}|{RTF-WIDTH5}|{RTF-WIDTH5}|{RTF-WIDTH5}|{RTF-WIDTH7}|{RTF-WIDTH7}">
<row> {RTF-HEAD}When baptized | Child's Christian Name | Parents' Christian Names | Parent's Surname | Abode | Quality, Trade or Profession | By whom the ceremony was performed | Associated Individuals | Other Information{RTF-HEAD.OFF}</row>
<row> {RTF-NORMAL}=TITLE[{DATE}]
No. {REF}| {KEYPERSON.GN} | {KEYFATHER.GN}=IF[{KEYFATHER.GN}%=IF[{KEYMOTHER.GN}% and %]%]{KEYMOTHER.GN} | =IF[{KEYFATHER.SN}%{KEYFATHER.SN}%{KEYMOTHER.SN}] | =IF[{KEYFATHER.RESIDENCE.ADDRESS}%{KEYFATHER.RESIDENCE.ADDRESS}, %=IF[{KEYMOTHER.RESIDENCE.ADDRESS}%{KEYMOTHER.RESIDENCE.ADDRESS}, %]]=IF[{KEYFATHER.RESIDENCE.PLACE}%{KEYFATHER.RESIDENCE.PLACE}%{KEYMOTHER.RESIDENCE.PLACE}] | =IF[{KEYFATHER.FULL}%{KEYFATHER.OCCUPATION}%{KEYMOTHER.OCCUPATION}] | =IF[{MINISTER}%{MINISTER}%=IF[{ASSOCLIST[Minister].COMMA}%
{ASSOCLIST[Minister].COMMA}%=IF[{ASSOCLIST[Priest].COMMA}%
{ASSOCLIST[Priest].COMMA}%=IF[{ASSOCLIST[Rabbi].COMMA}%
{ASSOCLIST[Rabbi].COMMA}%]]]] | =IF[{KEYPERSON.BIRTHDATE}%Born: =TITLE[{KEYPERSON.BIRTHDATE}]
%]=IF[{ASSOCLIST[Godparents].COMMA}%Godparents: {ASSOCLIST[Godparents].COMMA}%] |{OTHER} {RTF-NORMAL.OFF}</row>
</table>

I use the Other Information field to insert an Archive reference in addition to the Ref ID:, which comes from the image itself.

Hi

Yes that's good. I actually removed this during testing as people who were using the reference id for the full archive reference code quite rightly pointed out that this then looked odd in their autotext richtext template.

Cheers

Thanks Nick.

I forgot to say that the template refers to 1813 - Baptisms, but I suspect you spotted that ;)

Having now looked again at the citation in FH, I see that the Ref ID: is also used to populate the Publication Info: field on the source record - I hadn't spotted that before. The publication information is actually a bit more complicated, I think. In this specific instance, the source is physically located in a Repository, The Borthwick Institute for Archives, University of York, but the image containing the actual baptism details has been obtained from FindMyPast. To my mind, the Publication Info should therefore be FindMyPast, and specifically either the exact URL that is used to access the image, or details of the search/query that was used to find the image. As there doesn't seem to be a way of including this information, perhaps an additional field is required on the Further Info tab to record the Publication data? Then, perhaps, the Ref ID: could be renamed "Entry number", Other Info to "Archive Ref:"?

Possibly.... Another thing to try is the templated sources options in FH7 which AS can generate as these have more fields to specify citation details.

The reference ID is specifically there to record whatever citation reference number someone chooses to use. It's been much more clearly used for that on the Census screen. In the case of typing in a baptism number, my thinking was that it's usually only a couple of digits and easily typed into the source text before saving.

@mezentia: You have a choice. In the Options for Baptism settings - method 1, the default is for the baptism reference to be entered in the Publication Information field, but you can choose to have it in the Where within Source field, or neither. You could even choose to include it in the Title Template instead.

I've been into the Baptism Settings - Method 1 and made some changes, and a few other places as well :D . Quite honestly, that's not somewhere I'd actually thought of looking :oops: - I'd had the settings adjusted such a long time ago. With all the new stuff it's clearly time to re-engage brain, re-assess, and make some changes.
