Detailed Census Data

Post by TMG_refugee » 29 Sep 2020 17:20

I am relatively new at FH and very new trying to use AS. I used AS to enter a census record and I entered all the data in every column on the 1920 and 1930 census. I used auto to have that data entered into the text field for the census, I then saved it and FH and AS were aware that the other had made changes. When I looked for the Census Text data in FH I cannot seem to find it.

The project file for FH looks like this for that census Text data:

1 SOUR @S2@
2 PAGE W12
1 CHAN
2 DATE 29 SEP 2020
3 TIME 12:22:18
0 @N3@ NOTE Name,Relationship,Owned/Rented,Value or Rental,Radio set,Farm,Sex,Color,Age,Marital Condition,Marriage age,Attended school,Read/Write,Birthplace,Father Birthplace,Mother Birthplace,Mother tongue,Year of immigration,Naturalization,Speak Engl
1 CONC ish,Occupation,Industry,Worker class,Working,Veteran,War?
1 CONT New Person,Head,rent,4,000,Yes,Yes,M,W,35,S,35,Yes,Yes,Nova Scotia, Canada,englnd,france,french,1887,1892,Yes,Plumber,Constrution,W,Yes,No,No
1 CHAN
2 DATE 29 SEP 2020
3 TIME 12:34:15

What am I doing wrong?

Hi.
My guess is that you forgot to mention changes you made to the default AS Tools > Options > Census settings.
I suspect you have changed to Method 2 and chosen to save Source Text in a shared note.

If you check in the Records Window on the Notes tab you will find the Source Text, i.e. 0 @N3@ NOTE line in GEDCOM
That should be linked to the Citation, but is a bit tricky to find. There should be a 3 NOTE @N3@ line in GEDCOM
Select the Note record and use View > Record Links... or run the Where Used Record Links plugin.

The default option settings work very differently and make the data much easier to access.
They create a separate Source record for each Census household so the Source Text and the Media image are in one record and easily associated with each Census event, and also usually Birth and Occupation facts for each member of the household.

Did you see the tutorials in the ancestralsources:index#user_guide|> User Guide?

Mike,

Thank you that worked. I don't think I selected Census-2 but I reset everything and I was able to find the census data in FH. Like you said it was buried somewhat but all is well now.
