This happened out of the blue when I clicked SAVE
I hope that these screenshots are self-explanatory.
On the second, I have added an arrow indicating what I think is the error - a single apostrophe (which should not be there) before a path name.
* Error in saving a census family
Re: Error in saving a census family
Sorry - I can see now that there is nothing wrong with the apostrophe.
I think the problem is caused by my default Documents folder being in a different place. I will investigate further before bothering the forum again.

Re: Error in saving a census family
I have solved my own problem, but I do not understand how it happened.
I am using Windows 10 and have always placed my default My Documents folder on a different hard disk from the operating system (for obvious safety reasons).
So the correct path to Ancestral Sources' Settings, Log File and Backup folders is in the
E:\My Documents\Ancestral Sources\ folder, although Ancestral Sources default installation sets them in C:\Users\johnc\Documents\Ancestral Sources\ (although there is no such folder on my computer)
This works in practice because, I assume, Windows has a short-cut to My Documents in its C:\Users\johnc\ folder and calls from Ancestral sources for the non-existent folders get automatically redirected to the correct place.
But today it didn't work, so I have changed the folder name in AS Options and maybe it would be safer to change the names for the other two files as well?

Re: Error in saving a census family
Yes, all three AS folders should usually use the same path.
It may depend on how you have moved the Documents (and other) special folders.
See https://www.dummies.com/computers/opera ... indows-10/
When I used the OneDrive settings to move Documents into OneDrive I think AS automagically changed its folders.
It all hinges on Windows Registry entries for those special folders.
But if you don't use the correct procedure then the Windows Registry does not get updated correctly.
