Canada and US marriages

Post by Johnr65 » 25 Mar 2017 10:53

I'm never too sure whether these are by license or banns, etc. However is it possible to have a separate template for them or do I use the 'generic' one instead?

There could be various types of marriage.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_ ... ted_States, until the mid-19th century, common-law marriages were recognized as valid, but later licences were introduced. So maybe enter Marriage Type as Common-law.
Note: Some AS (and some FH) fields like this, although they have a drop-list, will accept free text. So enter whatever best describes the marriage source you have researched.

The Tools > Autotext Template Editor allows you to construct a transcript template that matches the style of marriage documents you have researched. They could be added to fhugdownloads:ancestralsources|> Downloads and Links ~ Ancestral Sources for the benefit of others, similar to the fhugdownloads:contents:template_baptism_autotext|> Ancestral Sources Template ~ Baptism Auto-Text examples.

I have just added a template for Catholic Baptisms (In Latin) to the KB.
Is there a page for Marriage Templates, so that I can add some of the US centric templates I have done?

No, but I can add one with the necessary hooks to get you started.

Here it is fhugdownloads:contents:template_marriage_autotext|> Ancestral Sources Template ~ Marriage Auto-Text.

But it won't appear in the fhugdownloads:ancestralsources|> Downloads and Links ~ Ancestral Sources until the KB index gets updated, but should be listed here fhugdownloads:recently_added_downloads|> Recently Added Downloads and Links for a while.

The white space layout for your new Catholic Baptisms (In Latin) entry looks a little unusual but maybe that is deliberate.

Thanks Mike,
I have Just added a batch of Marriage templates, can you check that I have done it correctly.

The white space on the catholic baptism is intentional

Excellent! Can't comment on the accuracy of the AS Templates, but KB looks OK.

BTW: I have added blank pages for Birth, Burial & Death Auto-Text Templates too.
