Would be glad of some guidance. Am I correct in the assumption that 1939.xml UK 1939 Register Template file should be saved into the \Ancestral Sources\Settings\ folder and should appear there as a file in that folder please? It's just that it isn't in there although as far as I can see all seems to be working ok.

No, that download won't be there, because recent versions of AS have incorporated the 1939 Census Register into its default Settings.xml file as standard.
