Mike Tate suggested that I should request you to add census data entry forms for censuses I am using. Instead, I had been going to ask whether it might be practical in computing terms at some future update, to adapt your existing Census Ancestral Sources, by allowing some customisation?
Having just discovered this part of the forum, I am surprised to see that this may already be possible. Is it correct that one can create a new Census template? I can find nothing about it in the help. But there are so many censuses coming on line world wide, that it would surely be impossible for Ancestral Sources to keep up with a dedicated template for each one.
I would like to be able to alter the Country, date and source fields.
Users of little known censuses could then select your existing form which provides the fields they need for data entry, but would be able to customise it, by entering the Country, date, and source of their choice?

Re: Create new template - Census
I think quite a few of us used the Template Editor to create a new template when the UK 1939 Register became available. I have also edited existing census templates to allow me to save data in FH in the format I want.
Once you open AS, select the Census icon and a new Menu option "Census" appears - select this and then "Census Templates". From the screen that is then displayed, you can hit the "Help" button to open a page showing details of how to edit and to create new templates.

Re: Create new template - Census
This thread is prompted by the Custom Data Entry Tab Places? (14493) topic where I asked: "So are you interested in designing a simple Census Template for these (non) census lists?"
The customised Census Templates feature of AS is coverd in ancestralsources:ancestral_sources_tutorial_working_with_templates|> Ancestral Sources Tutorial ~ Working With Templates under ancestralsources:tutorial:templates:census_grid_templates|> Ancestral Sources Tutorial ~ Working With Templates ~ (5) Census Grid that also refers to fhugdownloads:ancestralsources|> Downloads and Links ~ Ancestral Sources.
So to get started it would be useful to know some details about the (non) Census records.
Country?
Years? and Dates?
Census Grid Columns required?
e.g. Name, Sex, Age, Occupation, etc...
A typical transcript layout would also be useful for the Auto-Text feature Template.
See ancestralsources:tutorial:templates:auto_text_templates|> Ancestral Sources Tutorial ~ Working With Templates ~ (3) Auto Text.

Re: Create new template - Census
Sorry that you couldn't find it in the Help file. I'd be interested to know what you looked for so I can improve it if required. In the index it is listed under Census Template and searches for Census and/or template show the page in the list of topics...E Wilcock wrote:Having just discovered this part of the forum, I am surprised to see that this may already be possible.
