Create new template - Electoral Roll
Is there a way to create a new template for Ancestral Sources for other than a census?
The reason for asking is that I have found a whole load of electoral register entries that list households just the same as a census does and it would certainly make entering them easier using Ancestral Sources rather than creating individual residence facts in Family Historian.

Re: Create new template - Electoral Role
It would be worth a try, but there are a few caveats.
By default AS would create a Census Event as the primary fact, but in Tools > Options > Census settings you can choose Residence fact instead, but must remember to correct that setting for Census versus Electoral Roll. Also you would need to change the Source Type appropriately.
Otherwise, I suspect it would work.

The problem is that if you create a new census template it requires a date for the template, of course with an electoral roll you would want to input the date not have a fixed date. Any thoughts?

Re: Create new template - Electoral Roll
The Template needs a Year but will accept 0000 to differentiate from actual Census years.
So maybe UK 0000 will be the UK Electoral Roll template.
Then in the Create Census page you can edit the Census Date.
Also edit the Title and Ref Id, etc, or in the Options change the Template.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike I will give it a go.
Re: Create new template - Electoral Roll
What I have found is that if you go to the front of the 'book' for the UK electoral rolls it has a full date (normally in October) when the results were collected, so that's the date I used on my templates.Valkrider wrote:Mike

That works fine.tatewise wrote:The Template needs a Year but will accept 0000 to differentiate from actual Census years.

This bit is the problem you must input a date for the 'census' and it must be a valid date not 0000. This therefore means creating 10's of templates one for each year unless I have missed something.tatewise wrote:Then in the Create Census page you can edit the Census Date.

@Richard so have you a template for each year then?RSellens wrote: What I have found is that if you go to the front of the 'book' for the UK electoral rolls it has a full date (normally in October) when the results were collected, so that's the date I used on my templates.

Yes, unfortunately you have to choose a valid Year and a valid full Date in the Template, but in the Census grid page you can change the Date to any full date you like. So in the Template choose a Year such as 1000 and enter a Date such as 1 JAN 1000, then change the Date when the Census/Electoral data is entered in the Census grid page.
BTW: I discovered a Year with leading zeros such as 0000 or 0010 is not acceptable later on because it becomes 0 or 10 and says You must select or enter a year when you Save after any change to the columns.

Hi Colin, no I have only created rough templates for the few London rolls that I have found people on so far,Valkrider wrote:@Richard so have you a template for each year then?
