I've noticed that when I enter a death certificate on AS and enter the informant's name that FH puts the death of the informant at that date as well as the actual deceased? The only way to stop this is to delete the death from the informant's box otherwise it shows him/her as died then too?

I suspect it may be the way you are entering the details, or you misunderstand what AS has created in FH.
Nobody else has complained about such unusual behaviour.

Where do you enter the Informant in the AS Death dialogue tabs?

Are you sure it is an actual Death Event that is being added to the Informant?

Could you post screen-shots of what you see is happening.

I entered the details as it says on AS, bear in mind this was in Canada, however I can't post screenshots as I've completed it now but will do it next time it occurs.

I can see where your confusion arises I think.

When you look at the Facts for the informant there is a fact which is labelled Death but this actually a witness fact so linked to the death of the deceased individual. If you look at the sentence beneath it should refer to them being an informant.

To make this work properly you'll need to define the Informant role. See this page on the FHUG Knowledge Base:

Seems to work ok with British deaths but Canada seems to be a problem.

In what way?
How does entering British data differ from Canadian data?
The same AS options, templates, and settings apply for all Death entries, unless you have customised something.

What are you doing differently when you enter a Canadian entry rather than British and how are the results different in Family Historian?

If you create a death entry for any country and link an individual in your file as an informant then they will be saved in the same way, regardless of country.

I've not customised anything it just seems to happen that way.

I've got another Canada death that records the informant as being dead as well as the actual deceased.
The file is too large for me to attach it-how can I make it smaller?

You can put it on Dropbox, Google Drive or One Drive or other cloud storage and link to it. Or if you have found it on one of the paid sites it is probably better to provide a link to the image.

You could try using right-click on the file and Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder and attached the zip folder.

But as Nick Walker said earlier, that is the way it works with Witnesses/Informants at Marriages and Deaths, etc.
The Witness will have the Marriage or Death event of the Principal listed in their Facts tab,
But it should have a blue arrow instead of a bullet and say Witnessed Marriage of... or Informed Death of... to make it clear it is NOT the marriage or death of the Witness/Informant. The Sentence below should reinforce that.

Perhaps there is another technique we could explain how to use to get a screenshot.

I suspect you have not done that, because your screenshot is exactly what you get when the Informant Role is NOT defined.

BTW:
You only needed a screenshot of the Facts tab of the Property Box and it should not be embedded in a Word Document.
Use the Windows Snipping Tool to capture the image required, save it as a PNG file, and attach that file directly, or drag & drop it into the Forum Reply box. It will be a much smaller file.

Thank you Mike very informative, didn't realise how deep the program is and have now amended the birth and death facts to incorporate the informant details.
Also didn't know about the snipping tool but do now and done a snip as a test!

Can't resist passing a bit of info on Screen shots here.

Just in case you didn't know it: Screen shots are built into windows. There's no need for any other program. If you hit the "Print Screen" key (might be labeled PR SCR or P-Scr but is usually next to the Scroll Lock key) then you get a full screen shot pasted into your clipboard. You can then paste it into any program that supports graphics with Control-V or the paste menu. To capture only the top most window, hit ALT-Print Screen. This is built into every copy of Windows.

Yes, but some users think that is the only built-in snipping tool, and it still requires the use of another program to get a file. You contradict yourself when saying "There's no need for any other program" and then go on to say "You can then paste it into any program that supports graphics".
