Nick

Are you considering adding this to the Census side of AS?

It has already been done by an FHUG member.
See 1939 Register (12986).

Is it possible to add a column at the start of each line of autotext to include the sub-schedule number? This helps with redacted entries on the forms, but where the identity of those whose entries have been redacted are actually known or can be assumed with a relative degree of certainty?

There are several options.
  • You could customise the 1939 Census template to add an extra Sub.No. column to the grid, and then it will appear in the auto-text.
  • The Sub.No. is a simple serial number, and only needed for redacted entries that have no row details in the grid at all, so why not just insert a row in the auto-text saying Sub.No. 9 Redacted Entry.
  • Otherwise, just edit the auto-text entry with an extra column separator and the Sub.No. values.
As a general rule, and as advised in the Help, the auto-text will often need manual editing to match the actual record details. What AS creates is only an educated guess, and must be edited to form an accurate transcript.
