Ancestral Sources - error messages

Help please! I've just tried using Ancestral Sources for the first time in a while. I was able to open it, open my FH project, add data... but it then refused to save the new data.
After several rounds of this, I've uninstalled AS, downloaded the current version, installed it... but am now getting lots of error messages about it being unable to save auto-text settings.
Any ideas please?
Thanks!
Linda

Without some more specific information about what the messages are and when they occur it is difficult to tell you why this is happening but it sounds like a settings folder that Ancestral Sources used may have been removed or had its access permissions changed since you last ran AS successfully.
You could try going into Tools->Options and then choose Reset. Perhaps try resetting General Settings first and if that doesn't work then go for the original installation settings.
Best wishes
Nick

Linda, since you last ran AS successfully, have any major changes happened to your PC?
e.g. Updated to Windows 10, etc...

Yes, I am now using Windows 10... and am using a new laptop (in addition to the old one).
Have never had problems using AS previously.

Am now finding that when I open AS and try to select the relevant file, my gedcom files are not listed, but only the FH Projects. (The gedcoms are there when I simply try to browse my Dropbox folder.)
???
Life used to be so simple... Have I lost the plot?

Hi Linda,
Are you saying that you have some stand-alone Gedcom files that are not within Projects, and that you want to work on those gedcoms?
The normal situation since FH v4 has been for the gedcom files to be incorporated within projects. You then need to open the relevant project in AS to enter data into the gedcom within the project.
In your first post you said AS had 'refused to save the data'. Did you perhaps open an out of date stand-alone gedcom in AS and save data to it? Did you then open a project in FH and expect to see the new data there? If so you have updated the wrong gedcom, and that is why you did not see the new data in the project.

Linda, please confirm how you migrated/synchronise your data across both PC.
I assume both PC are running Windows 10?
Did you follow the advice in how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide?
Did you follow the advice in fhugdownloads:contents:dropbox|> Utility ~ Dropbox?
Have you put the entire Family Historian Projects folder in Dropbox as advised above.
Have you put the entire Ancestral Sources folder in Dropbox and updated the AS Tools > Options > Folders to match?
I strongly advise that you use the Ancestral Sources Data Entry Plugin to launch AS from within FH to ensure the correct Project/Gedcom is used.
