I'm moving from TMG to FH and still very much at the learning stage. I have downloaded AS and I have been playing around with it and I can see its usefulness. However, I am struggling to decide on Method 1 or Method 2 for census data entry.
In TMG I transcribed the census info into the notes field of the head of household and did a copy and paste into the notes field of all other people on the census record. Somewhat tedious but it worked, and when I printed individual detail reports the census transcript showed up nicely. I appreciate I could continue to do this in FH, but if there is a better way I'm would be pleased to change my modus operandi.
If I am interpreting my trials correctly:
with Method 1 I can always view the census transcript via the 'View source' option in the individual person records, but the transcript will not show on the Individual Summary Report
with Method 2 the only way I have found to see the transcript is via the Individual Summary Report where it appears as a source citation.
Is there a way of using Method 1 and having it print on the Individual Summary Report too?
Josie

Re: Viewing census transcripts
Hi Josie,
The only way to get the transcript into the main body of a report would be to enter it in the note field for the census event, as you have found. However it can be displayed in the Sources section at the end of the report.
With the report open, use Report Options > Sources tab. The second section on that tab is Source information to include, and you can tick Text from Source.
Of course this will apply to all soures, not just census sources.
The installation (default) settings do not have this option selected, although it is selected by default in the following section, for Source citations. If you have not changed the installation settings this is why you are seeing the text from source when using method 2 but not method 1.

Re: Viewing census transcripts
I had a similar query regarding a report and was persuaded that it was better in any case to have notes and/or source detail at the end, otherwise the notes/sources could hide the wood from the trees (no pun intended). But it all depends how you want to display your data. i.e. with notes/sources at the end it lets the first part give the overall life synopsis, and if you want more detail it is there at the end.
Anyway this topic (later on) might add some extra detail). Things might have changed now as this relates to FH5, but I think the principles are the same.

Re: Viewing census transcripts
Many thanks to you both for replies. After experimenting I have decided to go with Method 1
