Nick
I have just downloaded V5 and put in a couple of birth certs. - my own plus another.
When I look at the Fact sheet for my mother it just states 'Birth' alongside my birth date - with the sentence 'she was a Informant at Birth of.....'. Her Individual Narrative also say that she was an Informant.
I would like to show the informant date as the same as the Registration date as I think that this is the proper one . Is this possible, and, if so, how do I go about it?
On the same note, why are there 4 options for Registration? I thought that a parent (or other relative) was the informant and the registrar would register, and so have used 'Birth registered by other individual'.
Unlike your other correspondents the programme downloaded without any problem - I just have to enter a LOT of certificates.
Cheers
Roger

Re: AS and Birth records
A Family Historian witness role date is the date of the fact it links to - in this case the birth. For informants it would probably make more sense to edit the witness sentence template so the date isn't shown. Also It would probably be possible to put the registration date in the witness role note and refer to that in the sentence - this is perhaps an option for a future version of AS.When I look at the Fact sheet for my mother it just states 'Birth' alongside my birth date - with the sentence 'she was a Informant at Birth of.....'. I think this is slightly pedantic as it is common usage to talk about parents registering the birth. Although technically the registrar registers the birth, even the official gov.uk website says 'The mother or father can register the birth' and 'If the parents can’t register the birth (eg for medical reasons), certain other people can do it'. To clarify the options in Ancestral Sources: 'Birth registered by father' means 'birth registered and informant was father'. 'Birth registered by Mother' means 'birth registered and informant was mother'. 'Birth registered by other individual' means 'birth registered and informant was someone other than mother or father'. If you choose Mother or Father then the parent is the informant and their name, description and residence is automatically used. If you choose 'other' then you need to enter their details in the 'Informant' panel below. The details of the registrar (if you wish to enter them) can be added using the Registrar field on the 'Further Info' panel or you could add an 'associated individual' type for them.On the same note, why are there 4 options for Registration? I thought that a parent (or other relative) was the informant and the registrar would register, and so have used 'Birth registered by other individual'.
Thanks for that. At the time of writing it has been downloaded over 150 times without further reports of problems so I don't think there are any general issues.Unlike your other correspondents the programme downloaded without any problem
Best wishes

Thanks Nick. The Register paragraph explanation will be taken into account in future.
