AS v5 download problems

I have just tried to download the latest version of Ancestral Sources (v5.0) from the Knowledge Base.

I have tried to download both the 64bit and 32 bit versions with both Firefox and Chrome but cannot open either as I am getting a file corrupt message. Anyone else getting the same problem?

I've tried both downloads and they work fine. I know you had a similar problem during beta testing where one version wouldn't download for you with Firefox but worked with Chrome but I didn't get any other reports of problems. I can only suggest clearing your cache(s).

(For those who hadn't realised that v5 had been released then that's to be expected. I'm just in the process of updating news items, web pages, etc. to announce it).

I have downloaded it okay but on installation I am getting the following error :-

C:\Program Files\Ancestral Sources\Ancestral Sources.exe

An error occurred while trying to copy a file:
The source file is corrupted.

This is exactly the error message I am getting.I tried IE too and IE won't even download the file it says it is corrupt. However, I have successfully downloaded it using Firefox on my Mac copied it across to my PC and it installed fine. Very odd.

Not a problem here, downloaded and installed fine. I'm using Windows 7 and Chrome. Also tried Firefox and that worked fine.

If it hasn't worked, can you check the size of your download by looking at the properties of it?

The 64 bit version should be 5.76 MB (6,041,214 bytes)
The 32-bit version should be 5.76 MB (6,041,153 bytes)

I have a 64-bit system and the size of the installation file is, as you state, 6,041,214 bytes.

And presumably you definitely don't have Ancestral Sources running when you're installing the new version?

How about uninstalling AS first?

And/or give your PC a reboot and try again.

I did all of that and it now works.

Thank you.

I've downloaded and installed AS v5 which opens up immediately after installation, but when looking under Tools, Plugins AS isn't listed.

Ancestral Sources is a separate application, not a plug-in. There is a plug-in to launch it if you prefer not to launch it outside FH, but you need to download and install that plug-in separately.

I needed to add a URL Exclusion in Avast AV for http://www.fhug.org.uk/* in order to download AS V5.0 32-bit.

Trying to download the latest version, don't get very far as my anti-virus checker deletes it.

Jane, some AV are too aggressive (see my post for Avast) and perform a false positive protection.
So either temporarily switch off AV or set an exclusion for that download.

Sorted, all downloaded. Virus Checker was stopping it. :D Looks good. Many Thanks

Just for interest on the mention of AV. I have had AS V4 on my computer for quite a number of years. Then this week Norton suddenly decided that it didn't like it and removed it. Very odd!!
