Re: V4.5 on Mac under Crossover problem
ColinB, that is good news, especially that FH continues OK after AS modifies GEDCOM.
ColinV, could you investigate if this applies more generally to FH &/or AS &/or any editor modifying the GEDCOM file while one of the others has it open. Maybe this later Crossover version cures the problem we had with programs freezing in that scenario.

Re: V4.5 on Mac under Crossover problem
Mike
I have just updated my Mac to 6.0.2.
I opened the sample project in Family Historian. I then opened the gedcom in Notepad++ and edited one line. Saved it and returned to Family Historian. I got the usual warning about the file having been modified and to reload it. Unfortunately Family Historian locked up at this point and so I had to close the programme. It is the same problem as with V5 the dialog box gets the focus but it then doesn't switch the focus to the Yes / No buttons. Family Historian is still running but unresponsive due to the lockup caused by the dialog box.
It is there fore a Crossover / Family Historian problem that is not unique to Ancestral Sources and applies to any programme that modifies the gedcom that Family Historian has open.

So, how can that be, unless he closed FH immediatley after launching AS?AS launches via the plug in from FH6 and FH reloads the file after AS has modified it without a problem.
Or is AS V4.5 different?

Mike
It looks as though AS v4.5 handles the return to Family Historian differently. On return after saving an entry the usual dialog box pops up and it has the focus properly and the gedcom is reloaded.
A new issue now occurs though and I am getting an "unhandled exception error" in AS when I select an image to attach to the source. This occurs on clicking the Select File button in the image viewer dialog. The error refers to being unable to find an entry point named 'SHILCreateFromPath' in DLL. If I select continue then the Image Viewer dialog box has the same problem as mentioned in my previous post with the dialog box not sensing the clicks on the Save or Cancel buttons.
Searching on Google this 'unable to find an entry point named 'SHILCreateFromPath' in DLL' error is a known bug in Wine and is a call to the .Net 4.5 framework. I haven't found a mention of it referring to Crossover just Wine.
A work around is to set the WinVer to Windows XP and it will run but unfortunately, as we know, we can't do that with FH V6. I have raised it as a bug with Codeweavers.

I don't think anything changed between 4.01 and 4.5 with regards to saving files.Valkrider wrote:It looks as though AS v4.5 handles the return to Family Historian differently. On return after saving an entry the usual dialog box pops up and it has the focus properly and the gedcom is reloaded.
Ancestral Sources requires .Net 3.5 so this doesn't appear to be exactly the issue you mentioned.A new issue now occurs though and I am getting an "unhandled exception error" in AS when I select an image to attach to the source. Re: V4.5 on Mac under Crossover problem
I have heard back from Codeweavers and the fix for this will be in the next version of Crossover due around the end of the month.
Nick,
The Net framework is a bit awkward under Crossover and it seems as though when you create a Bottle it starts with installing v2 and then goes right the way through installing all versions to 4.5 as part of the install, so even though you may only require 3.5 a later version is installed and I suspect used.

Re: V4.5 on Mac under Crossover problem
I don't believe .NET Framework V4.5 is a problem because I think it is installed by default on Win 7 (and probably Win 8).
Certainly my Win 7 has V4.5.2 installed and AS runs OK.

You are missing the point I am not suggesting that it is the Net framework itself that is causing the problem it is the implementation of it within Wine / Crossover. It is a known bug that is fixed in Wine and will be corrected soon in Crossover.
