Flag assignment

Post by londonscorpion » 12 May 2014 14:48

I have a 34 flags set up (17 census flags and 17 other flags) in FH which I use on five projects. I have a couple of problems which I describe below.

1. In AS only 16 of the census flags are displayed in Flag Assignment/Census; one flag, 1920 US Census, is displayed with the flags for the other Assignment screens (Baptism, Marriage, Death and Burial).

2. The flags displayed in the other Flag Assignments (Baptism, Marriage, Death and Burial) vary depending on the project, and I do not see why. In one project no flags are offered for selection and I have to Type yhe name.

Can anyone tell me what is going on.

Thanks

1. The 1920 US Census Flag is probably not assigned correctly in AS, especially as its default Flags use USA instead of US.
Ensure that for each Individual with the Flag there is a Census Fact dated 1 Jan 1920.
Check the AS Census Flag Settings and ensure USA for 1920 is assigned to 1920 US Census.
(Your Flag should be available in the Flag field dropdown list.)
Remember to use the other AS tools Census Date Check and Census Flag Check.

Any Flags not assigned to Census are displayed for the other data entry types.

2. I think AS only lists Flags actually assigned to Individual Records so that may vary for each Project.

BTW:
You can probably replace your FH Flags with Expressions and avoid any further need to correlate them with AS.
Another big advantage of Expressions is they are automatic, so you don't have to remember to add Flags to Individuals.
Also they can identify Family and other conditions that Flags cannot.
See how_to:using_flags_and_icons_and_expressions|> Using Flags and Icons and Expressions for full details.

Problem solved - thanks. I used the AS Census Date Check as you suggested and it worked just fine but there was one issue it could not resolve and I attach a screen shot to illustrate. AS does not allow me to remove this line. What should I do and how do I find the offending citation?

Thanks

I have posted a PNG screen-shot from your RAR file, which displays nothing as it is a compressed file not an image file.

The problem with those 11 Facts is the blank Place field, so AS is guessing the UK 1861 Census from the Date field.

To find those Facts use the Standard Query All Events and first sort the Date column and then the Event column, by clicking on the column headings.

If you scroll down, that should bring the 11 Census Events together, and clicking on each in turn will open them to allow the Place to be entered, and just UK would satisfy AS.

Have you reviewed my BTW suggestion above?
