* Adding sources and citations

I would like the source for a marriage to read e.g.:
Marriages. Scotland.
With the citation e.g.:
Kinghorn, Fife. 439/00. 12 March 1915. ADAMSON, Peter and BROWN, Catherine. GROS Data 439/00 0007. http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk : accessed 29 November 2013.
But I can't work out how to do this. Can anyone help, please?

Sorry Jenny, but it is not clear where your problem lies.

Are you in the process of using Ancestral Sources to enter the Marriage data?

Where are you expecting to see the example data you supplied?
In particular fields in the Individual Property Box or Sources Pane, or the Source Property Box, or perhaps in a particular Report or Diagram?

Can you please be a bit more precise.

I am wanting to add the source and citation to the marriage record in Ancestral Sources so that the source and citation will appear in the source pane against all facts from the marriage record that are recorded in the individual property box.

As I recall you have already used AS to create Baptism entries.
The process for Marriages is essentially the same but using the AS Marriages tab.

The Source that will be listed on the yellow Sources (Citation) Pane will be the Source Record Title.
There is no separate Citation Title.

In AS the Title near the top is the Source Record Title.
Its default setting would give something like:
Marriage Kinghorn, Fife, Scotland (Parish Church) 12 Mar 1915 Peter ADAMSON and Catherine BROWN
But that can be changed either by editing temporarily or by changing the default template.

On the Further Info sub-tab you could enter the Ref ID as:
GROS Data 439/00 0007 accessed 29 November 2013
Although I would not record the accessed date here.
This Ref ID can appear in the Source Publication Info or the Citation Where within Source depending on your Tools > Options > Marriage settings - method 1 options for Record marriage reference.

I would advise using the Repository: Link a repository to identify ScotlandsPeople as where the original records are lodged.

After all the bride, groom, marriage details, and parents details have been entered, and the Marriage Certificate image linked, then when closed AS will automatically create all the relevant Facts with each one citing the Source Record.

Caveat: I don't use Ancestral Sources. But, my comments to add to those above are:

According to "best practice", the basic idea for the source record and other details in a case like this (an image of the original), is to cite / describe it, as if it is the original, but adding in the on-line details as the publication details.

So, ScotlandsPeople, etc., would appear in the publication details. There is no need to record the accessed date since you are looking at an image of the original, which isn't going to change. You wouldn't, after all, cite the date you read a book in a library, you'd record the publication date. Access dates are used for on-line stuff as a substitute for publication date since one can never be certain of when the stuff was published onto the web.

Based on what Mike says, that sounds like I'd add "ScotlandsPeople" to the Ref Id details that Mike suggests to give:
GROS Data 439/00 0007, digital image on ScotlandsPeople
and set this to appear in the Publication Info. Don't forget to add the description of what it is that appears on SP - "digital image" - as you might only be using the index.

And then I'd add ScotlandsPeople as a Repository, with its URL. (Elizabeth Shown Mills is relaxed about adding the URL. If you've said it's on Ancestry - to take another case - why add the URL? Chances are that someone following you has got a subs to a different country and therefore uses a different URL!)

I'm even slightly dubious about adding the GROS Data 439/00 0007 bit, though I do add it myself. That's an internal reference inside ScotlandsPeople and over the years, they have changed. The 439/00 plus the names and date surely suffice to define the exact certificate? Not sure on this....

Mike - I had completely forgotten about the Baptism query. I had been engrossed with a course and put my own family history on one side.
I shall now go away and practise on the Munro's following your advice.
