Property Box Tabs: Census UK

Post by antheaj » 10 Apr 2012 14:40

Have just updated from V4 to V5 and have added the custom Census UK tab. Filled in just one record and checked the person's record in the Focus Window and there are loads and loads of blank lines labelled Census or Occupation for this person. Have I done something wrong or is there a bug?
Using Windows 7 32bit.[frown]

Does it look like the screenshot shown on the download page?
Here Property Box Tabs: Census UK.

These fields will get populated as you complete the Census data entry for each year.
I recommend you use Ancestral Sources for the Census data entry.

The Property Box Tab is intended to help you identify which Census records you have not yet researched.

Hello Tatewise,

yes it does look like the screenshot but when I went back to the Focus Window and expanding the data for the person I had added just one record for there were lots (and I mean lots) of blank lines labelled either Census or Occupation.

Yes, I see what you mean.
I notice that happens if the data is entered via the tab.

It must be a side effect of using the special [year=9999] index.
This will need to be looked into by Calico Pie.

The multiple Fact data is easily undone by using Edit > Undo.

If you enter the Census and Occupation Facts via the Facts tab it is OK.

You might want to use the Census tab instead, that is available here Military & Census & Wills and does not have the problem.

Can anyone try this Census UK tab on FH V4.1 to see if the problem existed there, or has it been introduced by FH V5.0?

Tatewise - with much trepidation I managed to install the Census UK tab in FH V4.1 (not something I have done before!) and I have to report that it displays exactly as expected.

Tony, if you enter a Census Date in one of the fields on the Census UK tab, and inspect the Facts tab, are their LOTS of Census Events with no Date in addition to the one with the entered Date???

Tatewise.

If I enter a census date into the Census UK tab in FH V4.1 the Facts tab has LOTS of blank entries in addition to one with the date.

If I enter, say, the occupation without entering the date then this is not recorded in the Census UK tab but produces many blank occupation Facts with just one with the occupation.

If I then go back and enter a date then the occupation will also display in the Census UK Tab with a lot more blank date Facts.

HTH

Thank you Tony, that confirms the problem was in FH V4 too, but not spotted by anyone, including me the author.

I hope you realised the unwanted Facts were easily removed by using Edit > Undo.

Tatewise.

Many thanks for the tip for getting rid of the surplus entries - I had overlooked it!

Glad it wasn't me doing silly things then. It just seemed that the census tab in the property box would be a really good way to keep all the years together. Will keep checking just in case it gets fixed.

Thanks for keeping trying though.[smile]

This problem was fixed in FH V5.0.2 by making such entries read-only.
