Duplicate individuals
I think that my database contains a number of duplicated individuals probably as a result of faulty merging.
How can I make a list of these so that I can manually amend them?

You can use the Edit>Merge Records option to merge duplicates, I tend to use an all relations diagram (and the resulting ribbons) to work out what needs merging.
Duplicate individuals
Jane, sorry to be dim, but how do I make a list of duplicate individuals in the first place, in order to merge them with Edit - Merge Records?

There is no simple answer to that question.
It is related to Wish List entries Support for finding duplicate records and Duplicate Checking of Names on Entry that you can vote for.
If your database is not too large, then one way is to open the Individual Records Window, and with them in Name order, look for adjacent Records with similar Names, Dates, etc.

Jane, thanks for your help.

I've just run this plug-in and at first glance it has really surprised me how many duplicates I have ( or might have) and that need checking thoroughly. One suggestion Mike, or should I say request, and that is is it at all possible to show each individual's Record No in the result set? It's no big deal to work through each one and determine the numbers but if it is an easy thing thing to do ( is there such a thing?!) it would make a super plug-in even better.
Many thanks to you and Jane and all the others who make an excellent software even better!

Dagwood, did you realise if you select both cells on a row, you can select the Edit>Merge Records option to launch the dialog with the two records selected and check them directly.
You can always hit cancel when you have finished viewing them.

Thanks Jane, No I did not realise that and will do so now. Trust me to get over enthusiastic and start using it before I've read up on it properly!

That worked fine with one point worth noting: If you try to select both records using Ctrl key it does not work whereas Shift does. Worth remembering if using the Compare/Merge feature.
Thanks again Jane
