Updating a project after a family history trip

I have FH installed on my desktop at home and also on a netbook which I take on family history trips. When I come home, having added information to a project, how can I transfer this back to my main PC without entering every single piece of information separately again? In other words, how can I update the copy on my desktop?

I'm a big believer in Drag and Drop (I've said this before!). I keep my FH projects backed up by dragging and dropping the whole folder onto a Memory Stick. Recently I used OH's laptop while we were away. I had put my whole Project folder onto the laptop before we went away by dropping it into the Documents Library. When I opened FH it found the Projects and I did quite a lot of work on it.

When we got home (after making sure I had a different copy saved elsewhere in case of mishaps!!!!) I dropped the FH Project folder from the laptop onto the Memory Stick and then from the Memory Stick onto the desktop. Clicked on Yes when it warned me there was already a copy there and dropped it in. I then opened FH to make sure the 'updated' column really had updated. Job Done!

I know there are all sorts of more clever ways of syncing and copying but this way suits me.

I learned about Dropbox when attending a My-History FH course at Mexborough and downloaded it on both machines. So should I drag the whole FH programme into drop-box after I have finished working on it, or just the data part of the file? Or should I leave it in Dropbox and work on it there - and is it safe?

I keep my media and project on DropBox and have had no problems whatsoever once I made sure that nothing in the media file was starting with a C:* but that everything was shown as being in the Project Folder. I never have to copy or drag and drop and anything deleted ,either accidentally or deliberately, is retained where you can reinstall it if necessary.
I think it is both safe and very convenient.

I do what Ann does, that is use a Mem stick or external hard drive, but I don't just overwrite the project and Multimedia, as any files that have been deleted/renamed in the new version will still be in the overwritten version after re-loading the project. I always delete the complete folder before reloading.
I don't use Dropbox as my Family Tree folder is 9Gb and exceeds the Dropbox free space and I don't want to pay for storage. I have multi-able backups.
