Adding images to facts
Is there any way to make the 'Exclude from Diagrams' and 'Exclude from Reports' boxes be selected by default? I have a lot of census images to add, and which I don't want displayed, and I find it a bit of a pain to have to select the boxes every time I add an image.

Any reason why you add them to facts rather than to the source? I have not looked but it should be pretty easy to write a plugin to add the exclusions to media links if you have V5.

Hi Jane
Thanks for your reply. I'm new to FH, and I'm still finding my way around. I have been adding the images to the facts, but what you say makes sense. I take it that you only add the images to the source? I have to say, I have been using another program for a number of years but i've now switched to FH which I think is brilliant!

Yes, I keep my source images with the sources, that way I can easily remove them when I print reports, for non 'historians' who like images of people, churches etc, but for some reason can not get excited by a Census image or a Birth certificate, but equally I can send a fully cited report to those who appreciate these things.

Adding images to facts
I add images to the Individuals Multimedia Tab so I can easily see what images they have linked to them and I also link the images to Facts, again so I can easily see whether any images are linked. Of course the images are also linked to the source.
I may seem to be doing the same thing three times but why else should the programmer supply the options if we're not supposed to use them.
I do support the request to have the two check boxes ticked by default. From experiment I have found that I only want the Exclude From Reports un-ticked on the images linked to the Source. (Except for the persons photo).

I would also like to link census images to facts as well as the source. When they are linked to the source, the images don't seem to be easily accessible, although, being a new user of FH, I might not be doing it right.
I'm using Census Recording Method 1 to to enter census data in AS, and unlike Method 2 there is no option to save images to facts. There probably is a good reason for this, but it would be helpful (to me anyway). Would it be possible to do this Nick?

Adding images to facts
1) Click on the event in the records window

2) Click on the BOX WITH ARROW

3) This should open MULTIMEDIA window

4) Use the 1:1 or percentage to play around with the size and the hand to grab and move if you like.

I always save censuses at quite a large size in AS

Thanks Chris
That's very much quicker than the way I was doing it.
It still would be good to have the option to link images both to the source and the fact from withing AS though (when using method 1).

There isn't any point linking the image to the fact if it is linked to the source, you're just adding unnecessary extra data to your file. That's the good reason! As Chris illustrates it is reasonably easy to see the images in FH.Dave41 said:

Thanks Nick,
I hadn't thought of that. It makes very good sense.
