If your source is, say, a page from a marriage register, the image may well be a page with 4 marriages on.

The link to detail allows you to select just the one you are interested in.

Bit like the link to face on a photo.

If you look at one of my web pages
http://www.camichaelfh.ukfamilies.com/m ... m1239.html
and then go down to source 7

7   'London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921 Record for Emily Scott',

the link to details shows as just the relevant part of the page for
the individual but expands to the whole multimedia item when clicked.

Thank you Chris.
This will prove useful as I have a few newspaper scans regards reports of inquests.
Unfortunately the inquests papers did not survive the bombing of Sheffiled during ww2

The Link to Detail option for Sources is similar to the Link to Face option for Pictures.

It defines a Frame that selects a rectangular part of the Multimedia Image.
Then the Show Face (sic) button on the Source Property Box Multimedia tab switches between the full image and the Frame.
Also Reports will display the Frame of the Multimedia Image against the Source instead of the full image.
In FH V5 Publish > Create a Website/Make a Family Tree CD/DVD will similarly display the Frame of the Multimedia Image against the Source, but clicking on this image can pop-up the full image.
